Herper of the Month
June 2007
Courtney Gaverth

"I am 29 years old. I was born and raised in Blue Springs Missouri. I have been an electrician for over eight years. I've been married for three years now to a wonderful woman that supports my hobbies and interests. My interests are herping, camping, and fishing. I also breed captive born king snakes, milk snakes, and high end hognose snakes."

"My interest with herps started when I was 3 years old when visiting my grandparents in Warsaw Missouri. My family would take weekend trips there and I was always chasing around lizards in the yard and collecting box turtles for the Missouri State Fair turtle races."
"Growing up I have always been fascinated with reptiles and amphibians and every Christmas and birthday I would ask for a new snake book to add to my collection. I really have never had a role model that could show me the tricks to snake hunting so until about 4 years ago when joining the Garden Web Forum, I really didn't realize that herping is more of an art form. There I met Chad, Matt, Bob, Gary, Wayne, Mike, and a few others that have helped me out a lot."

"Chad Whitney especially has gone out of his way to teach me the ways of finding all of my favorite snakes especially timber rattlesnakes. Two years went by and I decided to join the Field Herp Forum."

"Here I have the opportunity to meet people from all over the world who share my interest. I really love this forum and reading everyone's posts. I hope to meet a lot of you in the future."
