"This
spring I found two Fire Salamanders. It is an extremely rare species
in the Netherlands. The temps I don't recall but it was one of the
first warm days of the season. I found them very close to a small
stream of water. They are so rare because of the loss of suitable
habitat. They need wooded hills with streaming water and chalk holding
soil. We have that habitat only in a very small part of the extreme
south of the Netherlands." |
