Re: From NJ to S. Florida

Thanks for the clarification Herper1. I guess it shows that no matter where you are down there, you can find anything.

Thank you Josh as well. BTW, I ordered your book a few weeks ago and it is great!

Re: From NJ to S. Florida

I know asking for locations is always a no-no on these forums, but being an invasive I will take my chance. Just curious where you saw the iguana. I thought they were mostly down in the Keys. I guess I was wondering if they are ever seen in the Flamingo area.

Re: Spider ID

Well, I only get down to Florida once a year, but they seem to be pretty common....or at least Fishing Spiders in general. I do not narrow them down to the exact species when I find them. However, they are always cool to find just because of their size. They, as a group, seem to be pretty common up ...

It is a type of Fishing Spider, but not sure the exact species. The genus is Dolomedes.

Re: Is this a Cuban Tree Frog or what?

Yep, definitely a Cuban. And you may see it go through color phases as they can be completely cream-colored one time you look at them and then the same individual will be green with oval circles the next time you look at him.

Re: Where are the Cecropia Moths?

Thanks kricket. When I Googled the title of the paper I was able to find it elsewhere besides the link that you provided. However, I do appreciate you pointing me to the paper as I was not aware of it. I know we need to control these other species, but in the process we sometimes do more damage than...

Where are the Cecropia Moths?

I was just curious if anybody sees Cecropia Moths anymore. I live in SE PA and travel up and down the east coast and have not seen a Cecropia Moth, or even a cocoon in years. I remember when I was young always finding cocoons. I don't really go out of my way to look for insects anymore, as in my adu...

Re: beetle question

I believe they are short-lived. Though you can find them pretty much the whole summer, I think they start to die off this time of the year as I have often found many dead ones on hikes in southern New Jersey this time of the year. Probably once they mate, they begin to die off for the year. Just my ...

Thanks for the Collier-Seminole State Park suggestion. That is actually a little further up closer to the area I had in mind. A friend also suggested that place.

Camping suggestion for the Everglades

Happy New Year everyone! I hope to be tent camping down in the Everglades sometime this spring, but being completely unfamiliar with the area, I am not sure of a good spot to camp. It doesn't necessarily have to be in Everglades NP (if there even are any areas to camp there), but there are NWR's dow...

Hey Mike. Awesome photos and it looks like you had a great trip. Since it is a non-native species, it shouldn't be a problem giving a location away. I was wondering, where did you see the geckos?

Camera Equipment on a Plane

Seeing Bart's post about tongs on a plane reminded me that I also have been wondering about something. How about camera equipment on a plane? I usually carry a nice-sized camera bag with a video camera, digital camera, spare batteries, memory cards, and a camera cleaning kit (with cleaning solution)...

Looking for a herp book on The Bahamas

Hello. In October I will be going to Grand Bahama Island and Nassau. I probably won't get to do much, if any, herping, but I would like a book that will help me identify any herps I may encounter. Looking on the Internet, I can't really find any good herp books on The Bahamas and was wondering if an...
