What about something like this for what we do? http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/Shop/Aluminum-Tripods/TP-243-Ground-Level-Tripod.html Also, when shopping for tripods online where can one find how low to the ground the tripod will go? Re: Rattlesnake Handling YES or NO
Here is my opinion on the matter specifically concerning rattlesnakes.
If a snake is encountered on the crawl and fleeing, as they usually are, I will handle it in order to get a photograph. If it is encountered and sitting still, there is no reason to disturb it usually. Simple as that.

That's simply incredible! Nature never ceases to amaze me. With that tail and amazing caudal luring skills, i can't believe this species isn't more well-known. I've never even heard of this species before, but it's a new favorite for sure! Surprised you haven't seen this and even more surprised you...

Trey, Looks like the gear is going to produce some nice images for you. I agree about the photos being a bit darker than I would have set them, but if that is the effect you wanted you did it well. In regard to darkening the background, I would try with the blacks slider in lightroom and the bringi...

Re: In light of my recent post...
Congratulations on the new set-up! As far as critique goes, I'm personally not a big fan of black backgrounds. If you could get the subject closer to the background you can get a little color/detail there and I think that would be an improvement. Of course that can be a double edged sword too, beca...

Good people hardly need to be policed, but over-policing them can convert them from friends into sullen hostiles. Making up and then enforcing rules against truly innocent behavior is never going to have good outcomes. I really don't - and never will - have much patience for being treated like a cr...

I have an SX30 and while it is an ok camera, had I known better back when I bought it I would have spent the $500 on something else. Definitely finding my quarry. I enjoy being out in the field immensely, whether it be herping, fishing whatever... but if I go out and get skunked I certainly do not enjoy it as much! This may stem from the fact that I have an EXTREMELY finite amount of time and opportunity to be doing these things....

Hey J-Miz, I headed from the west side of Cuyahoga cty to the east side last night. From where I am to the location of the vernal pools I visited is about 20 minutes. The temo dropped from 49 to 40 and the ground went from mushy and damp to frozen and covered in snow. Real bummer.
