Re: Cozumel Turtle ID
Thanks for the ID guys! I was pretty sure that's what they were, but I wanted to get the opinion of someone familiar with the area's turtles before entering it to NAHERP. I have zero experience with anything south of the border. Anyone know a good field guide for the herps of Mexico? One with range ...

Cozumel Turtle ID
While vacationing in Cozumel with my family last year, I found a pair of turtles sitting on the beach. At this time I wasn't really a serious herper, so I didn't think much of it and got a bad video of our encounter with them. Recently I've been bothered by the fact that I don't know what they are. ...

I can't believe I didn't see that. I thought that fifth scale was part of the rostral scale. I agree, it's P. laticeps.
Now I have some skink records in NAHERP to double-check(again).

Awesome rattlesnake diversity here. I've personally only seen 13 in my life, but then again I've only been herping for a couple years. Here are a few from this year: From MD in June, Timber Rattlesnake https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3920/14430962724_45107ec810_c.jpg SE Colorado, Prairie Rattlesnake ...

I agree with BDSkinner. The 4 labial scales means it's a fasciatus when comparing to laticeps which has five scales. Sometimes the scales are hard to distinguish, but they are pretty clear in your photo.

Awesome. Those hybrids sound really weird. I think I'm going to set finding an americanus x fowleri hybrid chorus as my #1 Goal for 2015. I recently made an account on H.E.R.P., and started entering data. This caused me to finally learn how to ID Toads. I always thought that both of the species of Toads native to Maryland lived in my neighborhood. I have since realized only Fowler's Toads live near me. However, just a few miles away a...

Jake, if you don't see the venom and personal attacks there, then I'm guessing you just don't know the history on the python issue. Ernie is making not-the-least-bit-veiled references to specific people with those statements. But surely you can at least see the clear attacks on the research communi...

Jake, if you are too superior and socially enlightened for this thread then, don't read it. It wasn't my intention to sound like that at all, sorry about that. Ernie, The question I have is what problem are the researchers trying to solve? As far as I know, there isn't a shred of proof the pythons have caused any problems at all. I just started entering data into the database. I know pretty much nothing about strategy or proper data entry techniques. I like these strategies, but I was wondering about some of this. I'd say racers bite way more, but don't do as much damage as Watersnakes do. It's difficult to say, since Watersnake bites bleed more do to components in their saliva. Racers never seem to do too much damage. I don't really know what a real racer bite would be like, because I've never had one put mo...
