Re: Herps (or other animals) found outside of range
When I was a kid (mid-70's), I found a Wood Turtle in Erie County, Orchard Park, NY to be exact. I found one, and my buddy found one, about 2 miles apart. That would be about a 75 mi range extension within NY. Although they are historically documented on the Niagara Peninsula in Ontario which was on...

As far as the homebrew goes I was not able to brew in time for it to be ready for Mills. I believe there is a good shot at lecontei, as well, given the predominence on Aspidoscelis in the area and the elevation is essentially the same as its CO distribution.

My son and I just returned from your area. Boy was it hot last week. We did run into some lifers for us but what you might consider junkers; Cottonmouths, Copperheads, numerous Nerodia ssp. As far as the exposed bone and damaged scutes go I would say 'coyote nibbling'. When were lived back East a box turtle wandered into our yard and our dog did damage very similar to that before I got home and found the poor critter.

Nice pics. Gotta get up there to see those parietalis. Flipped (and replaced) hundreds of rocks yesterday but no semiannulata. Interesting that we did not see any scorpions either, wonder if its related.

Not a bad first outing for 2011. Headed to SE CO. Air temps were about 63-65F, sunny but quite windy. Flipped 1 T lineatum, 5 D. p. arnyi, observed 3 S. undulatus. As I look out my window at 30mph winds and sub-zero temps its hard for me to think the first one is much less than 100 days out.
