Thanks Porter and Melissaisdown the Queen snake was a huge treat and this one was really cooperative so compared to what I was expecting it was lovely to photograph. That badger was less calm. great post I love to see representation from areas where I'd not even considered to be good herping spots. Now I know better. Love a good spadefoot as well, Pelobates is a really interesting looking genus.

What a great thing to look at, the diversity is amazing and I really like the narrative. I'm now very interested to know the "tricks of the trade" for finding large leaf-litter frogs like Megophrys. Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

Cimarron National Grasslands and Cheyenne Bottoms were the two stops I made last time I past through Kansas and both sites were amazing. Great photos, this guy was sort of hidden in plain sight. Warm (23C), sunny day in moist low area with predominantly sandy substrate. Spectacular year and your photos show it beautifully. Where (roughly) did you go in Ontario? I've found fox snakes to be relatively common on the north shore of Lake Erie but 4 is a great day. Thanks for sharing.

I agree any info you have about flashes vs. lights I'd be interested. They've never seemed too bothered but they keep calling when captured sometimes so seem pretty resilient to disturbance. If you are not trying to capture any particular activity and the animal is static you can just do a long expo...
