Should be fine if you left it alone. Its not uncommon for turtles to emerge on warm days in the middle of winter. Bringing it indoors and warming it up even more is far worse for it.

Point of clarification - we had 1,926 records representing 370 species. Oh my bad  ....that number makes a lot more sense. I could go record by record and make note of the person who contributed, but I really have no interest in doing that. Yeah I wouldn't expect you to. Don would have ...

I think this is a great idea. Your date range sounds fine to me. Perhaps a bit more promotion this year will get better results. Post on facebook, get Herp Mapper and other partners involved, etc.

Good work compiling the data.
I'm interested in how many people contributed, but I guess you cant pull this directly from the website? 370 is not very many records, I entered 38% of these. We can do way better.

If you really dont want to see our populations decimated by this new disease you will support importation bans on animals that could be infected (ie. salamanders from Europe and Asia). IMO, this is a bad or worse policy to take. I don't think bans would be good because it would force the market und...

As MonarchzMan said, a hands-off only approach does not make sense. The fungus is transmitted through soil, so if you enter the habitat contaminated you are just as likely to harm the population than if you touch an animal. Decontamination of shoes and equipment is the best way to slow the spread. B...

Re: Spring Seep as a Microhabitat?
springs have plenty of O2 in the winter, and maintain a relatively constant temperature of about 50F. Thats why several species overwinter in springs (e.g. pickerel frogs). Although stream salamanders are active year round in springs, there is very little if any feeding over the winter.

Steve, what value does your record have it you cant say where it was from? Do you at least have the locality field filled out, like the name of a park, etc? If that is the case, it is understandable that you might not know the GPS for historic records. In this case, just mark the center of the park ...
