Herping Houston, late April RFI
Hello all, Admittedly I haven’t been active on this forum for quite some time but I figured I would ask anyhow. I will be in the Houston area end of the month and am interested in doing some herping while out here. Although I am interested in whatever I may chance upon, certain finds would certainly...

Mtratcliffe- Thanks for the info amd warning on the heat. My biggest fear is exactly that- oppressive heat and humidity. We will be wandering around and just getting hotel rooms each night; it probably would have been better to rent a home and use it as a base for the trip (i.e. be active early and ...

Re: Help me choose a Camera! Thoughts on the 1D mark ii N?
I myself would go with the 1DIIn. If you are interested in the Canon 60mm macro, keep in mind it only works on APS-C bodies (like the 50D) as it is an EF-S lens. No worries, though...I would recommend the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro (about $400 used) anyways. Then I would save up my pennies for a nice t...

I've never owned a 1D MkIIn but I have owned its successor, which I still own (1D MkIII) as well as the 50D (sold). A lot depends on what you like to shoot. But for my use, I'd go with the 1D2n any day. There are two on amazon.com for $400; the second seems an awesome deal but the seller is untested...

Re: Convince me to buy a Canon EFS 100mm f/2.8 macro lens
Never used the Canon 100mm/2.8, but I have shot with a Canon 60mm macro and now use a Sigma 180mm macro. Macro lenses are all pretty sharp, no matter what the brand. The 60mm was good, but I wanted a bit more reach (and it only works on crop bodies). The 180mm is too long fairly often, but it allows...

Got a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher here in northern Ohio today. Very cool. Scissor-taileds are neat birds. Now you need your keen-eyed birder to pick out a Fork-tailed. ;) That would be awesome, but I'm guessing that's more likely in late fall. I might go back and see the scissor-tailed once more. You...

Got a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher here in northern Ohio today. Keen-eyed birders first spotted it yesterday and I was glad to get a chance to see this spectacular bird. Crappy shot, but at 80 meters you take what you can get. My 292nd bird species in Ohio: http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq131/swam...

I also second Andy's recommendations. The warbler fallouts in nw Ohio can be amazing, and yes...there are some good herps there, as well. If doing a northeastern trip in April, however, I again agree with Andy. I'd imagine shorebirds, waterfowl, and migrating raptors would be in good numbers.

A one-tank trip I had been wanting to do for a couple years now finally came to realization last September, when my father and I traveled to Elk County, Pennsylvania, for the annual elk rut. I know I asked this before, but I forget. I have CS4 which I use for editing (I shoot RAW and adjust WB, contrast, clone stuff out, etc). What does Lightroom have that CS4 doesn't? And is this deal available in the boxed version? I for whatever reason prefer a physical copy as opposed to a download.

Hmmm...I thought it was the other way around (breeding in Arizona and northern Mexico, wintering solely in Mexico). I think heavy predation by raptors was a big reason they couldn't be successfully established in Arizona.
