If it represents a mutation that reduces fitness (in the evolutionary sense) and thus will be selected against, it would be called aberrant I guess. However, it may represent a mutation that has been established in the population because, initially, it increased fitness simply because it was rare (a...

Thanks for sharing! The Krait is great. And the Kukri is wonderful too. I have come across quite a few O. purpurascens and actually keep one as a pet. The O. fascioalatus looks very similar to O. purpurascens. O.purpurascens exhibits a color pattern dimoprhism: one morph is red and has wide dorsal b...

Well, the picture is better indeed but it's still hard to be 100% sure. The back of the depicted snake is more extensively black than in those specimens I have seen. I'm still pretty sure though (let's say 99%). However, I would need some morphological data to be absolutely certain….

That's a lot indeed, on Santubong, Borneo, I found one specimen in nearly 100 days (4 hours per day). I guess differences between populations and ecosystemens can be great. Example from my experience: Oligodon purpurascens from Tioman Island are fairly friendly snakes (although they will still provi...
