Thank you. Marbled Salamanders are an amazing species. It is always amazing to find one guarding it's eggs like the one in the video I made. If you haven't checked it out yet give it a watch!

Re: Garters, northern water snakes, September, So New Englan
Without any tropical systems and so little rain in my area, herp movement has been pretty awful making for a weak fall looking for snakes. Once some rain finally comes hopefully we will all get to enjoy a bit more salamandering before the cold of winter. Is it wrong of me to already be dreaming of s...

At first we thought it was some marking for a study but that is not the typical place where turtle shells are marked. Maybe someone else might have some idea as to what that hole is.

Check boards in early summer and early fall. They are still cold and wet in the early spring and don't produce well then in my experience. Usually snakes retreat under boards to assist in shedding so any time of day for a board can work, just as long as it isn't late summer when it is hot and dried ...

Yes it is believed that ringneck venom is prey specific and toxicity varies among the subspecies. I just wish there was more literature on it because I enjoy learning new things and for some reason this topic sparked my interest so I felt the need to start fishing for information.

It sounds like you are on the right track, just keep looking they will turn up if they are there.
