Hey Bryan...thanks for plugging my book.
If he hasn't got it yet, I live right next door in Tempe and he could save money by getting a copy from me...

While this is true, a White Mountains specimen would represent a possible range extension to the south for the boa in NV. This is why Richard is interested in the county name.

It is definitely a Regal Ringneck eating a Ground Snake. The locality precludes the victim being a Sand Snake.

Hmmm, is the Baja Treefrog going to go the same way? That would make entries in the database much simpler...but I would lose 2 species because of it.

The best way to avoid the ticks is to stay out of brushy chaparral terrain. You will see the bushes as you drive along the crest of the hills or along the coast. Those are tick infested nightmares. So is the grass, but not as bad as the brush. I have no idea what you might see at Big Sur...so I won'...

That is amazing! Good catch. Did you have to zoom in before you knew what it was? Were you looking out for something like this? I might have missed it if I was doing street view on that street. I was actually using Street View down that road to try to pinpoint where I'd seen my own Gila at the park...

So, when you found her under the tin 2 months after escaping you just let her stay there? Then she wandered back into the snake room by herself? Is that the gist of this? I think that's what i read. So you weren't too concerned about her escape and decided to let her stay in the wild when discovered...

Yes. Herps don't get the chance to drink much unless they live in a riparian area, so they tend to stay underground to conserve moisture content. After a rain they will come to the surface, or at least, closer to the surface for the warmth and humidity.

The colors you are seeing are all related to the lighting. The adults in your area are muted yellow and brown, and the young are lemon yellow and black.
