Re: Baby Season...

That is a San Diego nightsnake ( H. O. klauberi). Super cool snake. Very cool! Looked it up on California Herps and it is obvious, once you know what you're lookiing at. First one of those we've seen in this area. Another I can add to my list. Thanks! Very cool find. Also, that looks like a decent ...

Neighbor kids brought this over for me to take a look at. They caught it well wrapped up in a Black Widows web in a drain hole, with the Mrs. persent. The kids had been handling it for ~30 min, so we were pretty sure she never bit it. Probably saved it from being dinner. I *think* a baby San Diego G...

Re: California Swollenstinger Scorpion (East Ventura County)

Pretty sure this is Anuroctonus. You know, I think you're right. Thank you! I have never heard of this one, the California Swollenstinger Scorpion. I found lots of pics to compare it to and it's a match. What I couldn't find is much info about them. Any kind of care sheet info or just general wiki ...

Very cool. From previous posts I remember you are located near Westlake Village. I have seen tons of dor snakes in that area this month but only one living one. South edge of Simi Valley, actually. Nothing but open hills between us and Agoura Hills. Lots and lots of open space. We get all kinds of ...

Don't know if this will work, I've never tried to post a video here before, but this guy was loud. Really loud. I heard it from the street, and it was under a tree about 50 yards away BEHIND my house on a small hill. Still don't know what set it off, but he was ready to go at it. And it really didn'...

Stripe-tailed Scorpion (East Ventura County)

Found this one in our home. While we've caught Scorpions around here before, they've all been pretty tiny. This one, not so much. Not a monster, but fairly large for what's typically seen. As you can see, it was ready to have a go at it, and by it, I mean me. It did not like being handled all that m...

Spider ID Please...

Daughter caught this lady on our screen, and I'm not sure what kind it is. Something new, or at least a little different, than the grass and wolf spiders we typically see walking or screens.

We have caught 2 scorpions in our house (along with a Camel Spider) within the last month. Very small, about 1.5" - 2" total, including length of tail. Hard to judge since it won't just lay it's tail flat for me. We live in inland Ventura County. Anyhow, here's a snap. Can anyone help ID it please? ...

Neighbor kids came running up to my door to tell me they found a rattlesnake on a walk in the hills south of our house (south end of Simi Valley, Ventura County). Yeah I talked to a ranger a few years ago. He seemed to think, "Poaching" was rampant in the park. I know this spot, and I seriously doubt Gopher Snakes, Kingsnakes, and Helleri are being shipped out to sell, and even furthermore that the USFWS would bother with a investigation for suc...

Another out of the neighbor's yard. 4th or 5th this year. Looking at them again, I agree that they are most likely not snake eggs, of any variety we have around here. Using the California Herps site (I go there alot), newly hatched Cal. Love chocolate kings. Which part of the state ( N S central)? Your description of king colors sounds a lot like what I used to get in an area of the E Sac valley. The lighter phase were few but beautiful. Had a long term captive / breeder named Hershy. We are in Ventura County, close to the Ventura...
