I had quite a few lifers this year but this tiny, little, Smooth Earth Snake was my favorite photo. It's my first reptile photo Ive printed, framed and hung on the wall.

Sevierville borders the Smokies and its beautiful. If you stay in Wears Valley there are lots of little cabins and you are about 7 miles from entry to the park or Pigeon Forge for restaurants and shopping. Prices should be good this time of year too. I sometimes handle snakes briefly to get a photo or move them out of harms way. I do agree with an earlier post about certain species don't seem to be as bothered by being held as others. Thanks Tim. I like finding exotics too but there are lots of native species there that would be lifers for me so Im excited to find anything. Not sure where to look outside the park but I plan on doing some shining inside the park.

Very nice shots. I just got a Tokina 100mm 2.8 macro lens and its awesome and not very expensive. On sharpness reviews it outscores almost all the top name brands. Check the AF though. Bankhead National Forest in Double Springs, Alabama is supposedly a good spot for herps. I havent been there but Ive seen photos of Timber Rattlers and a few other snakes from the area.
