Hey everyone! It's been a fat minute since I've posted on the forum but this story required to be told in detail. Too long for an Instagram post, but I might condense it and post it there as well. Anyways... I recently moved to Maryland to work for USGS as part of their amphibian monitoring initiati...

You're very much welcome Jeroen! I'm glad you liked it, thanks! Derek, you're right about the rainy nights. That's by far the best way to find some either by cruising, hiking or shining the ponds due to the minimal impact on the salamander's life. That last method you might be able to do on a dry ni...

Wowza! Love the Lamp diversity you got Justin, some of those individuals are beautiful. Also congrats again on montanus, they're a pain in the butt to find just about anywhere. Re: tips on finding salamanders in CA
Night herping is key when searching for salamanders especially in areas like California. If you have any moisture at all at night go out and shine the forest floor, tree trunks and rock faces. Salamanders will be out foraging for food and you should be able to spot them on-the-crawl.

So, what is an endemic? The term endemic I feel often has many meanings. For instance the dictionary definition is of one existing in a certain place. This means that when you describe an animal as endemic you must tack on a location to the end. However by this definition the Southern Two-lined Sala...
