Admittedly I have not been a regular poster these days, in my case I just don't get out as much as I used to.

Not a spider I would normally photograph, but the green abdomen was rather eye catching.

A last couple for the year
It's cold, it's wet, what is left to find? Yup salamanders. My local swamp, the Saint Francis Sunken Lands in NE Arkansas is kind of my go to place due to its proximity to home. It is difficult to herp this time of year though in that area as it is still open season on deer, as a result it not wise ...

Something we should be aware of, read it and react. This could have far reaching impact on all of us in the U.S.

Thanks, it was interesting that those three male stags hung out for so long with out bickering. The jeep works out pretty good as a place to hang the light although it has nothing to clamp the sheet on to so I have to rely on rocks to hold it in place.

North Americas smallest dragonfly. I have seen these a few times before and managed to get a few mediocre images. I knew they were small but until now I never really knew just how tiny they are. This poor little one was the victim of a spider.
RIP Fleas
I don't know how many of the old timers are still around but those that are may remember John Hardison also known as "Fleas". John apparently passed away over the weekend. I do not know the cause but I know his health had been poor for some time.

black lighting
Decided to break down the other night and do some black lighting in the local swamp. It was hot, it was muggy and even though I found nothing totally outrageous it was not a bad evening.

One of the most attractive buprestids in the United States. Took me a while to get a picture of one as they tend to fly off at the speed of light. Managed to capture and chill this one.

I have run into many folks involved with various outdoor observational activities, sadly in my experience the birders were by far the rudest and inconsiderate bunch I have ever met.

Well I do not know about the rangers in Anza Borrego, but I do know that fish and game used to commonly do such things at White water. It was common for them to place a piece of white rope banded with black tape to get people to stop thinking it was a king snake.

Re: question about moving turtles across roads
The strategy used for tortoise here in the west is to allow the animal to complete its trek. If it is in imminent danger, it is moved in the direction of travel. Typically not lifted as they tend to void their bladder (not good in the desert) but slid on a floor mat and dragged if the situation all...
