Wow! Snakes never cease to amaze me. What a day! When you panned from the plane to the gopher snake you really caught me off guard. Had to do a second take. Video is very well put together. Fantastic!

Richard, it was a pleasure to join you in the field and get to learn so much again. After we parted ways, my dad Mark Buck and I found one more rubber boa at a different outcrop. I could send you the exact location and possibly identifiable photographs if you'd like. The challenge you posed intrigue...

Nice post, Huck!
It was great getting out with you all those times! Great shots too. I especially liked your rosy shots, black and white gopher head shot, Gilbert's skink shot, and last coachwhip shot. I hope to hit the field with you more!

Unfortunately those are the only shots I have. I think it's most likely a skilton's because I have seen countless there before. That's not to say it can't be a gilbert's though. I'll be sure to get that side shot in any future case.
Thanks for the input!

Socal Skink ID Request
This skink was found in central riverside county while flipping for rosies. I can never tell for sure what the rules are regarding the striping in the tail to determine if they're Skilton's or Gilbert's. Also the tail had the slightest pink tinge that doesn't show up on the picture. Thoughts anyone?...

Both are definitely Western side-blotched lizards (Uta stansburiana elegans).
The dead one was perhaps hit by a biker? for some reason many of the dead ones I have seen become very blue in coloration.

If you are flipping rocks to find them, then it's definitely too late sadly. However they can still be found visually if that's what you're thinking. They can be road cruised at night too right now. Hope that helps a bit!
