Spring 2014: Working the Iberian Peninsula
Hello, This year’s spring I was working in Spain as a field technician catching lizards. During this time, I got to travel around the Iberian peninsula for four months from April through July which allowed me to see the majority of the herpetofauna, together with some great guys and gals that were n...

Thanks everyone, for the compliments. Regal, haha. Chris, they're definitely interesting snakes. Red eyes are pretty nice, too. Kyle, thanks for the compliment on the smooth snake. It's definitely a good one for me. Reako, heat is not what you want with these. If I'm reaching 70ºF I usually quit. I ...

Spring in Hoeland
Greetings, This year has been pretty slow. With one species and a few more years left in this country, herping motivation has dwindled a little. However, I was able to get out a few times this year and I’ll keep this post mostly pictures. Adders took up most of my time in the first weeks after winte...

I don't see how they hardly pay any attention to the inbreeding factor. A population of 15 females might survive 100 years, but that's nothing. Bottlenecks will almost always have deleterious effects on populations.

Although I believe (no, believe is a wrong word...) seeing god in the wonders of the natural world is almost disrespecting to the powers of the natural world (disrespect is a wrong word also because the universe is without bias, feelings, emotions, and purpose), I still like your post.

Hi, I’ve been in the Netherlands since July 1. I want to move back to Texas next year, and just in case that actually happens, I want to have seen every Dutch herp by next summer, which is far from difficult. I only have a few species left to see, and this post summarizes my finds since moving here....

I'll echo what Kevin said. The nicest looking pose on salamanders (and in a way the most natural) is very unnatural, as you never see them posed that way. I'd try to pose them that way though... head up, lively, and tail curled around. As for Todd... I've heard him speak to salamanders. I posed a du...

1. Firstly, I don't know if you like it that way, but I think the white balance needs to be adjusted. It looks way to warm/yellow. Secondly, although the composition isn't bad, I'm having trouble finding a subject/point to the picture. What were you trying to capture? Nothing is popping out at me. I...
