As editor for Herp Nation I will echo Scott's comments, that while we are not an academically peer reviewed journal we are very proud of the high quality content we choose to publish. That being said, I am a professional biologist (and life-long avid herpetoculturist), and I gave a former supervisor...

You might also look at temperature. A friend of mine who is a well known breeder of green tree pythons (among others) was having a lot of trouble years ago with full term dead in the egg. He started dropping the temp down from 89 F to 86 F in the last few weeks of incubation and as a result had a mu...

Glad to hear that there is at least some good news here. I always worry about theft. It was bad enough that I had to secure all of my outdoor turtles against raccoons after many years with no problems (lost 5 to them two summers ago), I'd hate to have to deal with the human factor.

I haven't tried it, but I have heard of people using it. I put a thin layer of wood pellets (wood stove pellets or stall pellets) on the bottom of the rodent cages and pine shavings (I've always used pine shavings) on top. The wood pellets really cut down on the smell.

Yes, phorid flies are what I get from time to time in the summer. I never used to have them until I had a cricket colony. I think they came in with the crickets and I haven't truly been able to get rid of them since (though I can keep the numbers way down by keeping things clean). I will try the abo...

What about night time temps? Do you shut off all heat? I heard they can handle (maybe need) big nighttime drops, like in the 50's. Thanks everyone. Husbandry is really pretty straightforward.
