Re: Coldest day you have ever found a herp?

I do a fair amount of looking in cold weather as I have found some reliable dens in Missouri that seem to produce any time of year as long as there is some sun and the temps are at least 40 degrees...and they even produce in sometimes cooler than 40 degree weather. I've found a dozen or more snakes ...

Re: Missouri Trip Report

Great pictures and report, Eitan!! :thumb: We really enjoyed herping with you and Ron! I am also appreciative that the snakes cooperated beyond expectations for the difficult time of year. While spring and fall are pretty sure bets, finding many of these species under rocks and on glades in the dry ...

Re: Snake Road Question

October 20-25th is too late to be ideal but not too late to see a Timber Rattlesnake. Generally their peak migration on the road itself is late September-early October (they are among the first snakes to move) and they can be found on the road itself into at least mid-October. On the bluffs you can ...

Re: Planning fall trip to Snake Road part 2

Anna has a Super 8, and Cape G. which isn't too far away has several motels. When my wife and I motel it instead of camping, we usually stay in Cape G because it has a good brew pub and more eating options than Anna.

Not everyone that asks for help. Is some idiiot. Sometimes they are just nice guys from out of town. Well, of course, 90% of us who ask for information are exactly as you describe, but since commercial collectors, poachers, and ethical herpers all appear the same on the internet it is better for th...

Re: Fall Snake Road Trip

I am starting to plan a fall trip down to snake road. This will be my first trip there and I am looking for some insight. Would like to pick the brains of those who have been there on such things as best dates, other good herping sights, etc. I am looking forward to the trip and the chance to photo...

Re: Fall Snake Road Trip

You do see a lot of Walking Sticks... I don't want the area closed to foot traffic so I'm kind of a prick when I see people breaking the rules down there. As well you should be. Snake Road is a terrific public resource. Snakes are abundant enough there that everyone can get some really good in situ...

Re: Forest Closure Updates - Check back often for updates

Thank you for posting this! It is very helpful in making my travel plans from Missouri to Arizona in late July-early August. Clearly I will have to go to some plan Bs (something that happens most trips anyways) as some of the areas I wanted to explore look like they will most likely still be off lim...

Re: Seeking advice on my SE AZ trip and wildfires

Thank you for the advice! This information has been very helpful and I appreciate it! Hopefully the monsoons will start early and often and put out the rash of wildfires affecting Arizona.

Thank you again for the replies and thoughts! :thumb:

Seeking advice on my SE AZ trip and wildfires

Hi all, I'm sad to see the Chiris and other areas of Arizona being consumed by wildfires and hope the human and wildlife populations affected both recover quickly. I'm also wondering what adjustments I should make to my monsoon vacation to AZ because of them. Months ago I planned a trip from MO and ...

Re: Photographically Missed or Captured Herping Finds...?

A. Taking a short romantic anniversary walk along a path with my wife, we didn't bother to bring a camera because we were just going for a short walk. She spots two beautiful and large osage copperheads in combat dance and we watch them for a good 25 minutes before one finally prevails. It was aweso...

Re: What do you consider lifers?

I don't count DOR or mortally wounded soon to be DOR snakes. I do count snakes that someone in my party spots, or that are pointed out to me by others in my party if the snake is still at where it was found. By others in my party I mean small parties of 2 to 5 people where we are all herping the sam...

Re: Larue for the rest of the spring

It's usually like that by mid-April. While there are several good weekends in the fall, there is usually one small window in the spring where it is spectacular and they all move at once (usually early April...sometimes late March) and then whoosh...the migration is over and you just find a handful o...
