Re: Anyone near Frederick, MD?

Thanks for the offer, don't think I'll make it up to NJ. Would love to, so I'll let you know if I can swing it. I'll be in the area Apr 28 thru May 1.

Anyone near Frederick, MD?

Hi all,

I'll be visiting family in Frederick, Maryland at the end of April or beginning of May this year. Anyone in the area want to go out looking for herps? I've never looked on the east coast, but have looked extensively in So Cal and other areas. Any help is appreciated.

Best, Kent

Re: Wonder Valley, CA?

Found 3 small banded geckos and one sidewinder. No lizards seen out during the day. Did quite a bit of hiking around rural habitat. Some tracks were seen, probably desert iguanas. Geckos found during the day under artificial cover (plywood). Sidewinder under doorframe wood at a demolished old homest...

Wonder Valley, CA?

Has anyone helped Wonder Valley, CA, just east of Joshua Tree and 29 Palms? I'll be spending some time out there soon, and want to see some herps, no collecting, only photos and life list checks. PM me if you have any location suggestions.

thanks, Kent

Excellent post! Need to hunt some sallies up north again, it's been a few years. Still want to find a terrestrial Dicamp. :-)

Re: Part I: My Herping Eden

Excellent post. Great to see the aquatic salamanders. Be careful handling armadillos, they're the most common way that people get leprosy in the US. Seriously, look it up.

Cheers, Kent B.

Re: Xenopus populations in U.S.

I've found them in West Anaheim in the smaller rock-sided storm drain culverts (about 20-30 feet across at the top). That was about 20 years ago, but they're probably still around. I think the areas I found them were fed from the Prado dam area. Found CA toads, Bullfrogs and Pacific Tree Frogs, ther...

That's because it's fall. Summer is over, but we're still broiling. :(

Hope it cools off very soon. This is ridiculous.

Here's a huge Garden Slender salamander that I found at my place in Highland Park, CA. It was almost 8" long.

Re: Question about herper culture...

To dh8r, In what part of the country do you live? I live in LA, and most of the folks I see on this forum are far from what I'd call a biker gang. Actually, most seem "normal," if there is such a thing. Tattoos and facial hair (beards and goatees) came into fashion in the 90s and never left. Maybe t...

Re: Turtle Burgers

While the ingredients are no doubt delectable, I find the assemblage in this form to be unappetizing, and somewhat gruesome. Maybe it's the bacon "shell" that's freakin' me out. Weird, because I love bbq. Oh well, bon appetit!

Good question, what happens to the collected salamanders? Maybe some mudsnake owners would be interested?

Great post. Nice to see the Dicamptodons, they're underrated in my opinion and are my favorite herp!
