A couple Oaxaca IDs
I'm in Salina Cruz, Oaxaca for a couple months, and would like some ID help. This is a Rhinoclemmys that I found about 20-40 kilometers inland from Salina Cruz. It was an adult female with a uniform cream colored plastron. I'm not exactly sure if it is R. rubida or R. pulcherrima . I am leaning towa...

I spent the winter of 2016/17 on Bioko island, which was the second time I have done that. I stayed at Moraka Playa, which is a remote field camp about 3 hours walk from a road. For Komodo, fly into Labuan Bajo on Flores from Bali. Hour and a half flight I think. In town you can wander about and hire a liveaboard boat to go to the islands. I think we paid $500ish for 4 days, 3 nights for the entire boat. This included all meals. We brought our own beer and they provided ice...

To look at someone's profile, you just have to find that person on one of the top lists for an area, or where they submitted a checklist. To find you Chrish, I just went to your home county, clicked on top 100 ebirders, and went down the list until I found your name.

I use 10x42 in tropical forest, and can't imagine using smaller. I don't really care much for field of view, as I'm focused on the bird, not the habitat around it. I may lose the odd flittering warbler, but overall, I prefer 10x.

I did eventually figure it out. I didn't realize you had to create the checklist before importing records, I figured it would just import all the records and use them the same way avisys did. I haven't had time to mess around with it yet, but it seems to have good potential.

Rent a car. It's probably cheaper than you think. It will save you so much time compared to public transport, which probably doesn't even exist for the places you'll want to go. This is basically a fact of life in the US, save a few major cities.
