A little late, I know. But mine were a female C. viridis and a YoY racerunner on Sept, 25th.
Officially, my last herp of 2011

Finally, posted my sightings up on NAHERP
OMG! I think my eyes are bleeding!!!! LOL Finally got around to posting up all my CO field herping sightings on NAHERP. At least that means that most of them are behind me now. Still have a couple of AZ herps and the herps from my Timber counts with W. H. Martin back east to add. But I can take a br...

Re: anyone know of some good herp diversity spots around Den
I do most of my field herping in NE or E Colorado. I know a few decent spots. Although I want to do more S and W Colorado this next year, I can always find time to do Northern Colorado.

Wow 12 years. Were you stationed in Antarctica, or stuck in a mine shaft or something? -Dell You mean there aren't Garter Snakes in Antarctica or mine shafts??? WTF?! Somebody lied to me, now I'm pissed! :P On a related note, finally managed to scare up a hognose today. I was beginning to think tha...

Re: Field herping pics from the last week
Yeah, I've seen the YT vids of you and your son. Some of those really just tripped me out. I hadn't been field herping in many years, not since I lived back in MD, and I moved to Denver in '96. Then one day a friend of mine introduced me to a friend of his (how many stories have we all heard that st...

Loving all these shots guys! Fantastic stuff. I'm very sorry that I missed out on this trip. So, my question is: How are you deciding that only the one adult is a C. o. concolor ? I'd definitely agree with many of the previously expressed sentiments that the crotalus of this area appear to be diffic...

Re: Field herping pics from the last week
Thanks, Brian. I can't help but wonder if the pink is just from the rigor mortis and settling of the blood. That rat snake wasn't that fresh, but not that old either, I estimated time of death to have been from that morning, and I found it laying on its back. I'm actually not too worried about the s...

Field herping pics from the last week
Over the last 2 weeks I've been running around eastern Colorado doing some field herping, and road cruising, and generally looking for new areas to check out before I move away. I've gotten some excellent shots, and managed to grab a couple of "firsts" for me. This first shot is yours trul...

Nice stuff, but how come you didn't reach over and pluck that stick off of the top of the head of that viridis? :D I thought about it, but the look I was getting from that snake made me think otherwise. LOL. Besides, isn't it about photographing them in situ . WOW  Your C. c. flavivent...

Finally, my field herping begins in earnest!!!
Went out yesterday and today to do some field herping. One old spot that everyone and their grandmother knows, and one new area I haven't ever been to. I figured both of these trips would be hit or miss. I'm glad I went, though! It's not often I can catch a Prairie Racerunner, and rarer still that I...

Personally, I'd be down to check out some strong probable locations for high altitude viridis and take photos and measurements to PROVE it.

I've found them just shy of 8000 ft just southwest of Golden, CO. But it has only happened twice, and I wasn't even herping, just out hiking around.

Yeah, I'll definitely keep you guys posted on what happens. Originally, it was looking like I was gonna try and hit AZ the 1st or 2nd week of August. But I have a wedding to go to on the 6th. Kris,
I love that advice! That's pretty much how I work when herping in Colorado, follow the crotes and the rest fall into place. LOL!

Those are some sweet milks! I get pretty excited when I find milks. They've been pretty few and far in between for me when I go out. And that aberrant milk is cool.

Planning an AZ trip, and I have a couple of questions
First off, just want to quickly introduce myself. Yes, that is my real name over to the left. Ratsnakehaven should recognize me from the Ratsnake Foundation, I hope he can vouch for me . I've posted a bio in the Rocky Mountain Chapter here . Anyways, I'm finally graduating from Metro State in D...

Re: State Venom Laws
I've looked into Colorado's laws concerning venomous on several occasions. Permits are nearly impossible to get, just like Montana. They also regulate venomous colubrids under these permits (i.e. False Water Cobras are a no-no, etc.). However, Heloderma are not regulated except in Colorado Springs, ...

Ian Jessup - Denver, CO.
I think this year I'm gonna focus on more of the southeast portions of the state, just an FYI. Northeast of Denver looks like it is gonna be a bad year, thus far.

That's an awesome post! I love seeing shots and hearing stories from individuals who go out to the same dens year after year and really get to know a population of rattlesnakes. I've only just started doing this myself, here in Colorado. Sadly, this will be my last year in Colorado and I'm finding t...

Yeah, I miss my Spilotes, a shame I had to give them up, but the timing wasn't right. Gotta love that ever watchful look they have. There isn't any other snake that looks at you like that.
