I would scoop up the tin!! Layer it 4 deep, snakes will use the cover for longer periods of time if they can thermoregulate in the pile without leaving. Construction dumpsters are great sources for scrap plywood.

It is an amazing place to herp alright. I haven't been in several years, but have had the privilege of going both in spring and fall. Love flipping in glades in Missouri as well, so many rocks!

Are the first two bowfins? The third a crappie ,correct? I've caught a couple that had no pattern except for a solid dorsal stripe.
I have very little in the way of fish pictures, I will try to change that. ;)

One afternoon, 4 loon species

Took the afternoon off and went to chase a yellow billed loon being seen in Provincetown ma. Was fortunate to see the yellow billed as well as common, red throated and pacific loons. The yellow billed was a lifer! Had a few alcids and a finback whale as well. I will post a few pics this weekend.

Warm winter here so far, just skim ice that melts every day. Getting some perch and smallies jigging on edges. But it's slow going.

I like to collect my own sphagnum. What part of ct are you in? It can be pretty easy to find. It re-grows very quickly, so as long as you don't beat a spot up you can collect without causing any damage to an area.

I would not use ladybugs. The bright color being a tip off that they may be poisonous or at least taste horrible. Flies, moths and spiders are usually pretty safe.
Kelly, I try to be very fussy with fly cultures. The slightest hint of mold and in the trash they go.

I feed my dendrobatids collected termites and midges. I've never had any problems. In the distant past I maintained a breeding pair of five lined skinks entirely on collected insects. Bess beetle larvae were a favorite. I would get multiple clutches from the female most years.

It looks like a pacific tree frog pseudacris regilla. They show up in plant shipments from norcal and Oregon. Cool that they are breeding there! Don't release them elsewhere please!

I live near several defunct cranberry bogs and sphagnum grows profusely in the ditches. I'm careful not to disturb other plants.

I always used sphagnum that I collected. The snakes seemed to like burrowing in the nest box. I always found the eggs under the moss or in the center. I never gave choices for a nesting site, but never had problems with egg retention. I liked sphagnum because it doesn't mold and is naturally sterile...

I lived in San Diego for a year and got a ca drivers license but kept my truck registered in ma. Insurance was so much cheaper here.

I love fox squirrels! I get a lot of enjoyment watching squirrels at my bird feeder. Even more fun now with all the snow! That was great!
