Not too far from their southern NY population.... That would make NJ the best state for turtles!! interesting ...3 other non-native turtles have established populations in NJ ;Red-Eared , soft shell & Map ."South Eastern NY" is about 25 Mins or less from where this was found ;).Realize the Blanding...

Just keep @ it .Habitat does appear solid . I have a spot I've been going to for about 5 yrs .Each year I usually come up with at least 1 new species of herp @ this same spot .If you're targeting snakes you may want to seek out an area with some artificial cover , which may help . Good Luck.

I have never "baited " . However , From field observations , They are very , very found of pickerel here in NJ . I have seen them emerging from lakes / creeks / ponds with good sized pickerel held in their mouth .
