Obviously if you have to release a herp immediately after capture you cannot make false claims that you are going to release it "later" and you cannot simply hold the herp until right before the event ends only to "recapture" it immediately after the event.

I'm not an expert on Specks as I've only seen a few. I did google images and the tail is certainly way more banded than any others. Helli, did you actually measure the 6 foot boa, or were you just estimating? I caught a very large bullsnake in Texas that supposedly ended up measuring 9'3"(total...

I caught a taylori in Utah(Toole Mtns.) once and celeanops in Texas(Davis Mtns.) once and they looked pretty different to me. Not just the colors either, the celeanops was a fatter bodied snake it seemed to me, maybe it had annulata influence?

Interesting observation. Wild snakes do seem to fairly commonly consume larger prey than would normally be advised in captive settings.

The only problematic thing I can see is road cruising. There's only 14 permit holders and at best only one permit holder can be in any given vehicle at a time. If nobody buys licenses it could be pretty hard to fit 90+ people into just 14 cars, ie 6 to 7 people(or more) per car.

After following this thread and looking at some of the studies linked herein, one thing I'd like to know that I did not see being addressed, is how much(if any) has traffic increased on these roads in the ENP? This is something that could affect mammal sightings near roads.

I think if you are hunting and you have a license then LE does not need a warrant to search containers that hold herps. What constitutes a "container" might need to be decided by a judge.

I like the idea of having a locality specific morph simply because I like locality snakes. It's true that most people don't care about locality when it comes to morphs but I think it is more desirable to have locality. That way you get the more specific look of that area combined with the morph trai...

These are very nice! You say they feed when offered, do the hatchlings take pinks right from the start?
Also, if they have such a short brumation, how to time when to breed? Is it like other colubrids where breeding can be timed around the female's first(or sometimes second) post-brumation shed?
