Re: Proper pronunciation of Agkistrodon
Thanks guys. The 'gk' combo was what was giving me grief. Couldn't figure out what to pronounce and what to leave out.

Proper pronunciation of Agkistrodon
Just a bit confused on the pronunciation here. Only ever seen it in text and was wondering the correct way to say it out loud. I know it can be a bit tricky to give pronunciation advice with written words but thanks in advance.

They have a very intelligent look to them, almost cobra-like. Beautiful snakes without a doubt.

Re: Any Dart Frog Keepers on FHF?
What size viv are they in? I have found with leucs having a 2.1 (2 males, 1 female) is the best ratio for breeding... The additional male creates a heierarchy and promotes competition which I think the female likes... Plus, you get extra calling! ;) I have them in an 18" cube Exo. Got a ridicul...

I currently keep a pair of D. Leucomelas. Would love more, but I just don't have the available space. I'm trying to figure out where I'm gonna put some snakes and a few fishtanks..... I think I need a bigger house:D

Re: Scarlet King eggs
Everyone seems to push ground skinks as starter food for these guys, but has anyone tried baby anoles? Just in the last week or so I have noticed an explosion of Brown Anole babies and if scarlet kings are dominant lizard feeders it seems like this might be an option to help get them transitioned. So, I see and read about these beautiful snakes on here quite regularly and I am unfamiliar with them(part of the reason I love this place, exposure to new and exciting things). I am very intrigued by them. Could I ask what the current latin is for them so I can do a bit more digging?? Thanks guys.

This topic also begs the question "Do different populations of the same species produce a different smelling musk? Or do they all stink the same?"
Just a thought as I was reading this thread.

Good point Chance, I failed to take into consideration gas, etc. I was just thinking support the local-ish economy bla bla bla, but I suppose I can still support them via the 'net.
And I suppose I should mention that I'm looking for westerns preferrably.

Hognose Breeders???
Hey all, I'm pretty sure that I have my wife convinced that my twin sons need a pet snake(read: I want a pet snake) considering just about everything they say and do is snake-related. She wants something that won't get huge, but is hardy and can/will tolerate occasional handling, so I mentioned hogg...

So nice to see pics from my old stomping grounds. I grew up less than forty minutes from the West Glacier entrance to the park. Absolutely beautiful country. I always loved seeing the goats and sheep at Logan Pass and moose on the drive up to Going-To-The-Sun. The last time I went to the park we wen...

Tortoise Rescue Questions
Hey everybody. My dad is going to have to move back to New York in the spring to care for his aging parents and unfortunately is not going to be able to take his tortoise collection with him. He has two red-footed tortoises, five or six Russian tortoises, and one mildly deformed sulcata. All were re...

Check out dendroboard.com as well. There are TONS of folks on there who make absolutely amazing vivariums and paludariums, with lots of great info and how-to's and build-alongs. Good forum as well, a little more to the tropical side, but good stuff none-the-less.

New to the area, looking for someone to show me around a bit
Hello all, this will be the first of many posts I'm sure. My name is Charlie and I just moved to Ft Myers FL with my family. I am very much an avid outdoorsman and I love reptiles and amphibians. I was wondering if there was anyone in my area willing to take out on a little adventure and share some ...
