You can walk around the Fens near Fenway Park ... turtles (RES). Easy to get to from Cambridge.

A much more exciting local is Blue Hills ... hike the "mountains". Google the fauna ... there are several unique species in the park. You can get there via bus/subway

Not from MD, but I understand Copperheads are plentiful ... as are Black Rat Snakes. Timber Rattlesnakes are also in your area. I was admonished here (rightfully so) a while back for posting pics of me hold a pine snake ... so I believe that there are regs in place which do not allow handling most reptiles. Someone else here will know the laws better than I ... I was told not to have anything remotely associated with collect...

Only ended up with about 2 hours to trek around ... ended up walking on Eagan Creek Greenway ... great place. 2 Water Snakes (not moccasins), a ga-zillion cooters, one alligator.

If you're staying at one of the resorts like Amelia Island Plantation, use your access to the land, golf courses, water courses, and beaches, especially at night if temps are good. USUALLY snappers that are on land are females nesting (coming or going) ... given that was during nesting season (June) that's probably what she was doing

While they are listed as residing in RI, I have never seen one here. However, I have found them over the boarder in Eastern CT. Pick a State Park in the southern 1/2 of the state that has ridges, and do some hiking through it ... you should find some.

My wife and I repeated our annual participation in the MassWildlife Headstarting program for Northern Red Bellied Cooters; hatchlings are from Plymouth Co MA. We raised 13 and they were release in May. We currentlyhave another batch (12) for release this coming May.

They are considered "endanger" in MA, and I believe that means you cannot harass them intentionally ... that means handling them. Having found numerous black rats in CT, I have no qualms with reasonably handling individuals ... they usually are docile and don't seem to mind being picked up...
