Re: An area of interest - possible NAFHA outing prospects?

Jim, Coluber taeniatus taeniatus are well known from the Kern Plateau, specifically the east side at Kennedy Meadows. Within close proximity you can find both Coluber taeniatus taeniatus and Coluber lateralis lateralis . Regarding trying to put something together, if someone like Todd Battey or anyo...

Re: An area of interest - possible NAFHA outing prospects?

The legal BS is severely retarded, especially in regards to this type of outing. We're talking about pretty dang harmless stuff here. If it is that big of a deal than someone else take it on and I'll just keep looking on my own. Meanwhile, animals are disappearing while people sit on their hands and...

I can't legally survey for Arroyos... so I survey the habitat for Bullfrogs... Exactly, so we are herp surveying in general. Regardless, I do not respond well to stupidity (in this case the idea of site seeing nature in the wild without touching and it being possibly illegal), and I already ...

Re: An area of interest - possible NAFHA outing prospects?

Well, when I think of "looking" for R. muscosa, I mean exactly that, just as you would bird watching. I can't imagine needing any permits to go wildlife viewing, but then it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong. You see a Rana, you take note of it and you DON'T touch it. The goal wou...

Re: An area of interest - possible NAFHA outing prospects?

Right now I'm only checking on interest. There's a couple of talking here, but for the most part, there doesn't seem to be much interest, so I don't know. It's cool and all to get in the field with 2 or 3 people, but I'd really like to see at least 10 or more out there. If we can generate the intere...

Re: An area of interest - possible NAFHA outing prospects?

Jeff, that's not a blunt nose, it's a Gambelia wislizenii from the Kern Plateau. They are very well documented to inhabit high elevation sage brush and desert scrub. They've been known from the Kern Plateau for many many years, so it's nothing new there, but still cool. Also, any Gambelia from the K...

I'll add a few more shots of the region as I dig them up. I have lots of them over the years. Here's a couple from 2005. It was fairly lush and green up there that year. This year the meadows turned brown pretty fast. Still lots of green, even with the drought, but not as green as then.... maybe nex...

An area of interest - possible NAFHA outing prospects?

An area of huge interest to me, my own back yard so to speak, is the Kern Plateau. And of current and most interest to me at this time is Rana muscosa. Historically they are known from many locations from all over the Kern Plateau. The Kern Plateau is pretty big too, so focusing with a small group o...

I like #2 because it looks like a slightly lower angle on the snake, which I tend to lean towards anyway. However, the double shadow is a bit annoying (probably an easy fix). I'm pretty neutral in regards to with or without the black corner though (sorry).

I really like HDR efforts for the most part. However, without a ton of work at the pixel level or without a super good program to do the job, the edges where the sky meet the trees/ground look too unreal. This extreme throws it all off for me. Ideally, you could shoot this same scene later in the da...
