Re: What's up with naherp?

Jonathan, I had your reply pulled up, and wanted to address it, but it appears to have been editted now before I had a chance to do so. I mainly want to address this point In the same thread you quoted was this statement: If there is ever talk of NAFHA taking control of records (aside from maybe cha...

Re: What's up with naherp?

At the end of 2017, I told HERP leadership that I needed to update my server to PHP 7. The code for NAHERP is not compatible though. My work load has increased, and I don't have the time to go through and rewrite the NAHERP code. I had actually set out to do it back in 2015 or 2016, and it just kept...

Re: Forum updated

Also the green highlighting. Oh... so I shouldn't change those to yellow? The theme I based this one was all green, so I was going through and changing things to the yellow. I didn't get everything, and I needed to do the images still... but I guess if people like the green... that's less for me to...

Forum updated

Hey guys, you probably notice the forum looks a bit different. With the most recent update, the old theme wasn't compatible any longer. I tried to match the look and feel the best I could, but changes in the structure make it so it can't be done exactly. The new layout should look better on mobile d...

Re: HERP Mobile App Not Working

Mobile Mapper was made to work with HerpMapper, NAHERP, and a few other projects, so I didn't have to maintain separate apps for each one.

Are you using HERP Mobile, or Mobile Mapper? Mobile Mapper replaced HERP Mobile a long time ago.

Re: Louisiana "Snake Rodeo" Killfest (GRAPHIC)

Received an email back from FWS. They must copy and paste it. Mr. Becker, We aware of the snake rodeo, and our staff, as well as other informed professionals, are working to educate the sponsors and participants about the need and benefit to leaving the snakes as a vital part of the lake’s ecosystem...

Accounts were created using the same email address as used on your NAHERP acount if you did not already have an account. You can request a password at https://www.herpmapper.org/auth/reset

Re: New Data Request - Jan 26, 2016

I said no to this, and my NAHERP records apparently have been transferred to Herpmapper anyway. You said no in the comments, but did not actually vote. The system is automated, and is not able to parse comments, so the actual votes are required. Because you didn't vote, your default action defined ...

Re: Questions about data collection quality with a smart pho

Some of the work I do could require me to go around finding GPS points that I've already marked out from a map, or logging a number of GPS data points in a row, or possibly even making GPS tracks. My assumption is that it would be more difficult to do those things with a camera GPS than it would wi...

The quality and ease of monitoring/reading the camera-based GPS would also be a concern for me
What is your concern with it?

Re: Questions about data collection quality with a smart pho

In addition to your other valid concerns, I'd think about trying to use a touchscreen device in a wet, muddy jungle. I have had to skip taking records when all I had on me was my cell phone. When I kayak on the river, I keep my phone/camera in a dry box, and keep a dry rag with as well so I can dry...

Re: Questions about data collection quality with a smart pho

* I'm concerned that the GPS accuracy would be significantly lower than with a handheld GPS device, especially in the forest with significant tree canopy That's going to vary with each device and what they have for GPS chips. My phone get's me just as accurate a reading as the past handheld GPS uni...

This is actually being done as two data requests, for the same data. One requests has the provision that locations may be published with the paper, and the other that no locations may be released. Re: Why does NAFHA exist?

NAFHA is where I got connected to the herping world. Brian Eager sent me here after I asked a question about some Utah lizards and wanted to find a place where I could learn about herping in California. You mean FHF is where you were sent. NAFHA came out of the FHF community, but even without NAFHA...

Re: NAHERP--Is There a Way to...

Is this something we end-users can do already? If so, I'm unsure where to begin the process. Nope, not something you can do yet. Was giving the different options of what system I could build it into. I could make it generate the small png maps in a decent enough speed I think, or use the flash maps...

If you saw one map, then your browser supports SVG just fine. It just didn't load the second map for some reason.

http://www.naherp.com/test/svg.html That page should load two SVG maps that are generated in real time. The first one is the small image style, the other is the full size large one. Both allow for panning and zooming. The speed of which you can pan and zoom depends on your computer though, and the l...

Re: NAHERP--Is There a Way to...

BTW, as SVG support becomes more common place, doing the taxon specific maps would probably be easier now if I just generate SVG instead of jpeg/png. Doing that would be really fast for each species, but you would have to convert the SVG to jpeg/png if you want. The most intensive part of the map ge...

Re: NAHERP--Is There a Way to...

It's not a difficult thing to do. You just make it only use records on or before the date you specify, and for "age or records" calculations, make it do it on that date instead of the current date. For per species, we have those flash maps for those since generating the jpeg/png maps for e...

Spinifer had some recordings on naherp.com as vouchers. I listened to those. I just wanted to hear the call rather than just go by sound prints in the paper.
