Someone correct me if I am wrong-but if the OP is finding coerulea should he not be seeing snakes under the same cover? The only local lizard I would use as a barometer for snake activity would be skinks. They seem to be more sensitive to moisture and temperature. If I find skinks under cover objec...

It's too dry to find any snakes right now it the Bay Area. Wait until we get a decent rain and then try going out a day or two after it stops. Flipping rocks and boards this time of year is an exercise in futility.

At this point, I'd suggest waiting it out.

Great post. The Glossy and the Long-nosed fill me with jealousy. Jim--We'll have to get you out on the road with us soon. Shouldn't be too hard to get you a Glossy and a Long-nosed. Here is the latest culmination of my snake encounters. I've managed to find a few more lifers, tons of rattlers, and lots of other cool stuff. Not a captive. Found it basking by a trail. Oddly enough, it was rather small--maybe 2 1/2 feet.
