Re: Pipa pipa toad question

Awesome thanks for the help. Berkeley have you ever had any problems with the toads eating the sand while feeding? I read on one site that you should keep them without substrate.

Re: Pipa pipa toad question

Thanks for the response Vic. Yeah, I have read all I can find on the internet and they don't actually seem like a difficult species to keep. Breeding on the other hand seems to be another story. Good call on talking to zoo people and luckily I know a few. Although no clue if they have ever had Pipas...

Pipa pipa toad question

Hi,

Does any one have any experience caring for or breeding Pipa pipa toads (Suriname toad)? I've always thought they were really cool and am thinking about getting one. They only problem is I don't know much about caring for them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Here is the paper that Originally describe this behavior. Pretty neat little paper. The fledglings grew significantly faster in presence of the snakes than without the snakes. F. R. Gehlbach and R. S. Baldridge. 1987. Live Blind Snakes (Leptotyphlops dulcis) in Eastern Screech Owl (Otus asio) Nests:...

Marylander heading to Texas. info request

Hi, I'm heading down to Tyler TX this weekend for a grad school interview on Friday. Ill have Saturday and Sunday to get out to do some herping/hiking. I'm just curious whether I have much of a chance of turning anything up this time of year? Even the common stuff would be awesome and probably a lif...

Interesting solution to Guam's snake Problem

Just came across this article. http://www.walb.com/story/21304245/us-govt-to-air-drop-toxic-mice-on-guam-snakes Not sure how I feel about it yet. I agree that something should be done about the brown tree snakes in Guam, but I can see a potential for large unintended consequences. Then again I have ...

What do you feed them? I only ask because my brother had one and the only thing he said it would eat was snails, which I know are a large part of their natural diet. I was just wondering whether your are willing to eat anything else?

Thanks. Yeah I think if I had one available back home I would get very little work done. I was extremely shocked at how easy it was to use, its not until you start getting to the multiple thousand zoom range that it gets difficult.

Close ups of some inverts from this summer. (DUW)

This summer I had the opportunity to spend a few month at Friday Harbor Labs in Washington doing research. I was interested in the decorator crab Oregonia gracilis , but while I was there I saw some truly amazing inverts. I also learned to use a Scanning electron microscope (SEM). I used the SEM a l...

Haha I was at a place in Montgomery county, MD. Its pretty much a herp paradise, especially ones that are fans of flooded timber and vernal pools (which are everywhere). That being said I was still very shocked to see as much as I did this early.

Re: Movement tomorrow night?

I made it out to my favorite salamander spot for about 45 minutes. Counted 107 spotteds alive and well, plus a bunch DOR. Lots of peepers, couple grey tree frogs, and a few newts. No pics though, too wet to bring a camera.

Pretty good for January herping.

Turtle Fungus? Maybe? Help!

I just got two little turtles for my nephew, a painted and red belly, and there seems to be this whitish goo around their necks and legs. Yea, I figured that it was most likely one of the many random animal / snake myths out there. this is just my opinion... even if the babies can't control their venom like the adults can, I would personally prefer (If I had the choice  ) being bit by a snake with venom glands the size of a tic-t...

Really enjoyed the photos. Pathetic that people kill animals just for a souvenir.
