Re: Madison, WI

Thanks Jimi. Arrived in Madison this Sunday, June 2nd, and heading off back to Finland on June 15th. At work practically 6:30AM - 5:30PM during weekdays, so practically no time to herp after all. Also, didn't bring field gear. Will probably swap any herping for culture again and hit the museums and ...

Madison, WI

Hi herpers.

I'll be in Madison, WI during 2-15.6 for work. Won't bring any herping gear, nor won't be ready for it, but if just by chance someone is up for a little walk in herp-country, I'd appreciate it. Very short notice.

Pm or maeranni (at) gmail.com

Cheers,

Martti (Helsinki, Finland)

Re: Singapore customs vs. snake hook

The hook wasn't a problem. They weren't interested at Changi airport and I managed to avoid checks at the Johor Bahru causeway immigration, where a check would have been thorough.
The immigration-process at the land-border is interesting to say the least.

Singapore customs vs. snake hook

I'll be off to Malaysia via Singapore in a couple of weeks and am planning on doing at least a bit of herping. The thing is, I'll have to stop at Singapore customs (got meds that need permission) at both Changi airport and the Johor Bahru causeway. I'll be taking the camera, lenses, flash and torche...

Try Fieldherping EU http://fieldherping.eu/Forum/index A lot of knowledgeable herpers and herpetologists there. Herpers tend to be quite secretive about specific V. berus locations, so you may or may not find help finding them. Also, you might have to travel as berus sites are hardly abundant in a p...

Marti, Tangential to your main topic, is defensive strategy combined with similar pattern and even behavior combined with noise. A bit of a bastard buying a book for 100+€, and there being a further print for 50€.

Excellent footage of Vipera berus mating behaviour.

Gary N's post about combatting kingsnakes reminded me of this. Note the sexual dimorphism and the males' color contrasts being high. They...
