Thanks for the informative reply Mr. Hoyer.. I think I know the mountain to the west of Abla, you are refering to.. The San Rafael mts, big pine peak? That would also put the SRB in Santa Barbara co. I think its possible, especially Reyes peak. I'll have to try up there the next chance I get.. -Dan

I've heard of this event before, and it sounds like a good way to raise awareness. The lizards are returned to their habitat, fish and game approved.. I think being from SoCal, its easy to think of the Coastal horned toad as extremely rare, but perhaps in other areas, like Nor-Cal, they are much mor...

I messaged the person who put up the video. He has it off line for a short while, to have it authenticated by some reputable members of the herp comunity.. But he swears what he filmed was a real in situation encounter. He says the video will be back for veiwing, eventually.

Yeah. I saw the video as well. It did look a little suspect. If the guy could have gotten the snake to stretch out (in situ style) like that, it could have been faked.. But those definatley looked like catalina island foxes.. So I dont know.. The person in question, appears to have removed the video...

Johnathan, thats a pretty nice find. A dark hyper for sure, and the chaining, though not totally abnormal for southwest LA co. is quite complete from head to tail, which is more rare. Hide them really, really well, cover them well.. And try to find your own areas to set up, not where lots of other people go.. Now a days Google Earth, requires you cover them up really well.. I also agree with Kent, that these could be newbies, that are only half-educated..
