Shawnee National Forest & Louisiana road hunt June 22-28
I took a trip to the Shawnee National Forest and to Louisiana June 22 - 28. This trip was a record. The worst snake hunting trip I have ever done. Even so, I really enjoyed it for three reasons. I met a herpetologist at Southeastern Louisiana University, Dr. Cliff Fontenot. He was a great host and r...

I also posted a request for help herping around Houston. No one replied. I am thinking that no one wants to give out information that could get there favorite spots plundered. It is hard to blame them. My plan is to look for NWA, national and state parks/forest that look like good places to road hun...

Hunting near Houston
I am planning a big trip to Shawnee National Forest and then south to LA. I have plenty of potential sites to explore and road cruise in LA. However, I also plan on visiting my brother in Houston. I would like to take him road cruising in some park, wildlife refuge etc. I am not familiar with this a...

Re: Snake Road and the Surrounding Area - Sept. 30th - Oct. 4th
Very nice report. I am heading to La to look for 3-toed amphiumas and other amphibians/reptiles. On the way (I live in Michigan) I am planning on spending a couple of days here seeing what I can find. My plan is to travel during May or June.

Re: Vermiclate water ratio
I have successfully hatched corn, yellow rat, and kingsnake snake eggs as well as painted and soft-shell turtle eggs using the following method. I use a 1:1 vermiculite mixture by weight. I also weigh the container to get a final weight of container + vermiuclite+water+eggs. Water evaporates over ti...

Thanks to Dr Prof D. Holland, I misidentified the glossy snake. It is a juvenile bull snake.

Careful with the Blue spot identification. There are a lot more hybrid salamanders than diploid blue spotted salamanders.

Re: Herp Hunting West Texas August 2017
I found 103 snakes. Let's see if I can recall the species: WDB, Blacktail, Trans Pecos ratsnake, glossy, bull, night, checkered garter, longnose, blackheaded, desert kingsnake - no mojave. That is it I think. I will have to check my field notes.

I am not sure if my previous post went through or not. I may be duplicating messages.
