That would be Udeopsylla robusta. It can definitely look like U. tanneri, but that species is restricted to a couple dune systems in Utah and Arizona, while U. robusta occurs throughout the Great Plains.

Re: Blind Snakes and Screech Owls?
A wonderful example of domestication. The owls are domesticating the blind snakes to control pests in their nest. The blind snakes benefit by having a good resource of food and live in a protected environment inside the owl nest :thumb: How much does the blind snake actually benefit though? While t...

The End

I was the founder and first president of the chapter, and I am pleased to see the growth the chapter has experienced. However, the general direction of NAFHA, combined with my geogra...

Re: Including an "Open" catagory to the Security Level
When plotting the GIS points, there is always the option of adding a buffer to the point, say within 5km or so. The point would be plotted randomly within that buffer. Without a vector from the point of origin, it would be near impossible to locate where the record was originally located, yet still...

Re: Including an "Open" catagory to the Security Level
I actually think this is a very good idea. The open, free, sharing of information is increasingly important to science (just look at how many free journals there are online now, or specialized, open source software like R statistics or QGIS). While there is a potential for this to be abused, at some...

5 frog species rediscovered in Costa Rica
Link to story
Looks like some of the more critically imperiled amphibians have started to pop up again in Costa Rica. Either this indicates rebounding populations, better survey efforts, or both. It is a good sign, but things are still bad out there.

Fantastic series of images! Makes me itch to get back to Costa Rica. I think this guy is not Agalychnis callidryas , like your previous photos, but a different species of Agalychnis , most likely Agalychnis saltator . I'll try and confirm it when I get home. http://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t604/...

Most of us do not carry a dedicated camera system in the field 100% of the time. Even the crazies that do will have chance encounters with herps, and want to document such finds. Many use the herp mobile app. With the ubiquity of cell phones, and increasingly good cell phone cameras, some of us undo...

I'm swinging back around to S. intermontana on this, but I'm still somewhat unsure. Maybe intermontanaXmultiplicata? It's a shame I haven't heard any calls this year. I'm not going to call this settled until I can examine more individuals and hear calls.

This was found in Garfield. According to the IUCN range maps (which are the only ones I have access to at the moment), S. multiplicata occurs in Garfield, while S. bombifrons is restricted to San Juan.
