There arent any counties in Louisiana. The entire post is a hoax!!!Fieldnotes wrote:Recently the Lampropeltis getula had a name change and now the California Kingsnake is L. californiae.
What is the new common/scientific name of this Kingsnake from Cameron County, Louisiana, US?

The alternative was a couple of dead snakes... In my mind a 2 mile trip up the road to preserve the life of the animals should be seen as a noble cause.

That is pretty sad! My heart goes out to that family... If they can ban salt in NY, there will be no problem banning these larger constrictors! Negligence will ruin it for all. The fact is these are wild animals. Just like the guy that got his neck chewed off by his trained show tiger in Vegas, ther...

Nice - you really gotta respect that. I bet this is just the tip of the ice berg when it comes to animals just "knowing" the planet. We have tons to learn.

In all the years I've been catching snakes, I've never used a hook. There have been a few times where I could have used one. There are a lot of folks I respect on the forum that use them so I might try my hand at making one. I have some experience working with metal and having a tubing bended, drill...

My buddy calls me up asking me to come get a snake from his yard... I jumped at that chance. I get there and catch an eastern garter - Male about 24". That guy gets released on state game lands. Same friend calls me again and says there's another one. Mind you this was yesterday, 2 calls within...

Thanks a lot for the feedback and topnotch advice!!! It all makes sense. Thinking about it now, I'm paying about $60 for a pair of New Balance shoes. Great grip initially, but losses it quick and torn soles to boot(no pun). I need to use my thrift gene and stop eyeing up boots/shoes at Bass Pro or C...

Hiking Boots/Shoes
Ok I've run the gamut on brands from Nike's to New Balance. With the exception of New Balance they are all tough to keep for more than a season. I'm usually on rocky, wet terrain. Sometimes in shallow creeks. I'm looking to venture out of the run of the mill stuff. Any ideas? I'm curious what other ...

Re: What snake challenged you the most?
I have to echo Paul and say the Milksnake. I caught a Louisiana milk snake in the early 90's. I moved to Pa in 96 and searched without any results. However this year alone I'm up 3. They are abundant in Pa, but I couldnt find one. Here's one. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j231/98frontier/IMG_894...

Hello My name is Brandon. I grew up in Louisiana and moved to Pa in '96. I currentlty live in Northern York County. I've been chasing cold blooded animals forever. I love all herps but hold a very special place in my heart for snakes. I've housed a number of species. I go herping about 1-2 times a w...
