Re: Northwest, Lacey, Olympia Washington and surrounding areas
I know this is a really late reply, but I just wanted to share my experiences with rubber boas in western washington. I have found at least 20 boas in the Puget sound area. I don't know of anyone who has found more in this area so I felt obligated to comment. First, beachside habitat is ideal. If yo...

I think they should do it. There's no way to know if humans caused their extinction in the first place, but I think we should give em a second chance to exist. That said, I'm way more interested in seeing them bring back the thylacine. An animal we KNOW we killed off.

Cool snake! Have you been to the Gorge much this year? I was thinking about going again in a couple weeks. I would be getting out more for herping, but the fishing is so good right now that none of my fishing buddies will let me leave town for a weekend.

Awesome photos! As a native to the relatively herpless Pacific Northwest, the longest I have been away from home was the six months I spent in South Carolina. I will never forget the amazing variety of species down there. You never know what you're going to find when you herp in the south! By the wa...

Weak sauce. I've been fishing in Nevada for a week and I stayed in Lyle last night to do some night driving on my way back home. I didn't have access to a computer, or I would have taken you up on your offer. We found a Skink and a couple Fence Lizards during the day. Aside from all the dor snakes w...

My bad. Must have missed that pic. Have you ever witnessed nesting behavior in Red-eared Sliders in this state? I am curious to know what species have successfully reproduced in Western Washington.

Have you ever seen newly hatched Red-eared Sliders in Washington State? I was under the impression that most, if not all, Red-ears in this state are released pets. Not sure if this is the case. I would be interested in seeing pics of baby Turtles of any species in the Puget Sound area.

Jake, I should be heading east tomorrow after work. I'm going camping with a friend. We're gonna spend most of Sunday exploring. Re: Sharptails in the Puget Sound region
Hmm.... Are all the records for them in the Tacoma area very localised, or are they spread out at least? I have driven every road between Seattle and Olympia (for my work), and I'm sure if the population was originally spread out, it has to have hung on somewhere. Some of the roads in the fort Lewis...

Sharptails in the Puget Sound region
Does anyone have any info on the population that occurs (or did occur) in the Tacoma area? Like when the last individual was recorded? Yeah, it has been a crazy year. Most of the snakes I've found this year have been juveniles as well. Watching the weather in eastern washington, it seems they haven't had any real good stretches of warm, sunny weather to really get things moving. This week looks like it will be different, though. I ...

Went to Eastern Wa again last weekend. Was kind of a spur of the moment trip, but it turned out ok. My friend Tim and I started out in the Cle elum area an...

Cool finds. That sucks about the z. Kinda gotta take it in stride when you're road hunting, though. I tend to find as many dead snakes on the road as I do live ones. I saw my one and only Western Pond Turtle years ago while traveling through the gorge. He was in a very tiny pond, all by himself. Las...

Re: 550 miles
Man, I need to get a camera. I went back to Eastern Washington Friday night and came back saturday night. Saw another Sharptail, about five Garters, a Gopher Snake, and nine boas! Re: 550 miles
Thanks, Richard. Yeah, it is pretty open habitat. If you were looking for a place to flip for them, you probably wouldn't stop there. I know it wouldn't be my ideal spot. That said, they are obviously there. I am going back to eastern washington for the weekend. Not sure if I'll be going to Vantage ...
Re: 550 miles
That's cool. Not the kind of habitat I'm used to seeing them in. Those scorpions are pretty cool, too. I find a lot of those when I'm flipping rocks in eastern Wa. I'm pretty sure I've only found two species in this state. Those ones, and the sometimes greenish black ones in the oak woodlands of sou...

Re: Ill-Conceived Wildlife Laws - RE: herps, invertebrates,
I agree, the law is BS. If you want to get technical, it's illegal to move a snake off the road and out of the way of cars. However, the lack of any real pressure from herpers on the reptile population in this state is probably why this law has not been revised in so long to allow for the take of na...

I talked to a "higher up" at the DFW several years ago, specifically about the laws here. I believe it is WAC 232-12-064(?) that says you cannot possess live native wildlife. I haven't read it in years, so I could be wrong. That was just the number that popped into my head. Anyway, I asked...
