Re: Why are Herps Awesome?
I haven't posted on here in a while, but I really think this is a great thread; it's insightful as well as very informative. I think the life spans of some herps, like tortoises and tuataras, are truly incredible. From our perspective, life for those creatures seems pretty simple, yet I can't begin ...

Spring 2014
Hey guys, here are some finds from Spring 2014: A cold, skinny Southern Leopard Frog was the first hero I saw this year. He was a little uncooperative, which is understandable because he'd probably been buried in snow for the past few months! https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2506/13172468505_c3705f445...

I don't think its NOT an eastern, I've just never seen any definite easterns like it. Plus since it was found so close to the border I thought there was a possibility of it being a maritime.

Oh ok I see what your saying. In all my visits to the area, I've only seen individuals that exhibit characteristics of pallidulus, so is it possible that the range should be extended?

Garter Snake Question
I was looking around flickr today and came across a picture of a garter snake that looked extremely similar to one I had seen in the past. I clicked on the image and it said the snake was a Maritime Garter Snake (T. s. pallidulus). I looked into the species a little and saw that its range in the U.S...

I also think animal planet is on a downward spiral. The only show I find acceptable is River Monsters, even though a few things may be dramatized. I don't mind Gator Boys that much; I think that if what they say is true than they have a good motive. Call of the Wildman is extremely entertaining, but...

Fall isn't usually the most productive time of year for me when it comes to herps; however, this year I was able to sneak out a mere two times and still find some great critters. We can all agree that too much time spent photographing herps is bad. My question is what is the right amount of time? The most I've spent posing and photoing a one was probably with a salamander (about 15 minutes).
