Re: what some hikers said...

Hey Jim, I think that some of us have different beliefs about what risks actually matter to our herps and our hobby. What you brought up in this thread is interesting and relevant, and I apologize for suggesting that you shouldn't be sharing your opinion. You are fully entitled to your opinion, and ...

Re: what some hikers said...

Unfortunately, giving the 'seedy side of herping' so much air time is really counter productive. It gives the incorrect view of herpers as a whole. There simply aren't hordes of herp poachers in the CA hills. Here's why. Let's think like one of these poachers we all talk about. If you're in Julian l...

Actually, thanks to the Lacey act I believe that if you so much as move your animal across any state line, you are now breaking federal law.
I hope you really enjoy living where you are now.

Re: Kings, Rings, and ugly things. Or how to read the lines.

I actually do understand having kooks messing up my favorite spots (that I found on my own). It's very frustrating.
It still seems a little counter productive to check the same boards that much.

Re: AVID/PIT Tags

Certainly, IF the experiment could impact the population as a whole, such as a sensitive or endemic population. But if you're talking about a species that is abundant, I don't see the issue honestly. These animals get run over, they get hunted and preyed upon naturally. Doing something that "could b...

Re: AVID/PIT Tags

Yeah, if you're an amateur you should leave it to the pros. Say, for instance, if you're an employee of the San Diego Gas Electric Company who tries to contribute to the study of reptiles on the side, like this guy. http://www.desertusa.com/mag99/apr/papr/photos/klauber.jpg Yeah, you should probably...
