Re: Waiting for Herps - herping while staying still

For the past few years a friend and I have spent a lot of time on lawn chairs watching a large rock wall in the upper midwest. It's great fun with a good set of binos and a luke warm 6-pak of PBR's. We see tons of Fox, Milk and Garters and always have a bet on the first species to show. Whoever gues...

The park is solid 24/7/365. Try to stay in front of moon rise and if the temp is over 73F you are good to go. Josh is correct. Scarlets are abundant west of West lake. A couple days after the full is gravy...it goes downhill from there and reaches a low movement time on the new moon...but any night ...

I visited WI one September several years ago and found nothing beyond browns and redbellies on the roads after dark, smooth greens, hognose and some garters during the days and a few spotted sals, red backs and blue spots in the mornings. I find them on several sites in central belt of the state but there doesn't seem to be any defining factor...one here, two there, one here, etc. They are only where you find them. I lik'em and wish I had an answer, but I don't.

Telephone poles. Think about it...buried below the frost line so they don't "shift." With the correct substrate surrounding them they are golden.

Put them in an "X" pattern with an opening in the middle. Fill the opening with ac....you'll never have to close traps and worry about that kind of stuff while you are absent and everything is happy. (Get permission in writing first...I always make a point of that.)
