Re: Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM
Thanks bgorum. I do have a nice tripod, and can take the camera images with my phone for zero movement. I may hold off until after the trip for the 24mm now. I know I'll sure use it when that baby comes! My other lenses are very decent for herp photography as well. So here's to finding cool herps ou...

Re: Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM
I was thinking that the cropped sensor might be a problem during landscape shots. Mainly I chose this lens for it's low light capability and it's potential with a full frame camera (which will be somewhere down the road for me). I also chose it for event photography indoors. My two other lenses are ...

Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM
I'm heading out to Texas' Big Bend at the end of the month and want to purchase the Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM for early morning desert landscape images. It will be mounted to my 70D. I'd really love to see some of your captures with this lens! Also, suggestions? Advice? My goal is crisp detail of ...

Re: Fake herp photography
Although I didn't read through all the commentary, I fully agree that tricking people with posed animals is bad for the uniformed public and allows them to believe that it's true. That being said, I found this anole in its natural habitat in Wyoming, advertising for Joe's Mexican Shack. It was the h...

Here is a list of all known genus/species. It has the countries of origin as well. The first picture is an adult male in your thread, so it may look quite different from a female.

Fox Squirrels
The first fox saw me coming, walked over to a nearby fence post, climbed it and posed just long enough for the picture, and then casually walked away. I always find them to be pretty laid-back. http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/RRDave/IMG_7466a.jpg http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/RRDav...

Thanks Tom! I'm looking forward to whatever else you find as well! The spider from the previous trip is probably an adult male Cyriopagopus schioedtei, the Malaysian earth tiger (that's my guess, anyway lol). Cool find!

Tom, it sounds like you are posting as you go over there. If you're still there, I have a request! I'd love to see any arachnids in their natural habitat that you might encounter. Specifically tarantulas in the genus Lampropelma, Haplopelma , etc Also scorpions and centipedes. That would be great to...

Re: Tubs for large snakes?
I've been able to get them outside of the Christmas season when they are not touted as Christmas tree storage. Iris sells them, I believe. The ones I have are, in my opinion, better anyway because they have a clear lid and no wheels. I paid around $40 for them.

I had a hooked out male Grammostola go through another molt after living 2 years post mature molt. He never made it out of the molt, though. He was too weak. My friend and I planned on herping a section of canal in a remote, dark area and then hit another trail at a different location. We got to the canal at about 11 or 12 pm and headed out into the darkness. The canal went straight out from his vehicle, allowing us to see where he parked the car- well, ...

Besides, he needs to get to the finish line first with a (live) short tail! (Unless there's something I don't know yet. )

How big is that spider? Are they a common species?
