Hello, It's been awhile since I've posted here, some of you may recall my posts about studying snapping turtles in the Bronx and herping New York City. I've started a company doing educational programs here in the city called New York Wild!, and am posting here because we're offering some part time ...

new herp oriented organization in New York City needs help

Hey guys, I apologize for my absence from the forum this season - i was bitten by a timber and suffered from anaphylaxis, which had me out of commission for months. I'll post a pic of the scar soon. Anyway, such a near death experience is life changing, and now I'm starting a new company/ organizati...

looking for: big burm, sulcatta, big water monitor - help!

Hey guys, I'm starting a big educational/ outreach program in New York City doing shows at schools, day cares, birthday parties, etc. I've got all the permission I need to keep the animals I need in NY since I'm using them for exhibition purposes. I was wondering if anybody had any of the animals I'...

Where to get a 4 foot alligator for educational shows?

Hey guys, I'm looking to acquire a tame, larger alligator for my educational shows. It's easy to find babies, but I'm having trouble finding anything larger. I was wondering if any of you guys could point me in the right direction? I'm currently located in Lawrence, KS, but will be back in NYC in a ...

Re: Small Scale Films T-Shirt Sale Emergency

Let me tell you guys a little something about Dan. As a young aspiring herpetologist, I am a perfect example of what Small Scale Films is about and what it is capable of. Ever since he reached out to me to do a short documentary about my research and my story, Dan has been the best teacher, mentor, ...

Re: 5 Years in Florida: A Retrospective (Part 2)

Wow, this was one of my favorite posts in awhile. Really inspirational for a young aspiring herpetologist such as myself. I usually just look at the pictures but I actually read this one. I've always been drawn to Florida for its herps and this post made me want to get down there even more. Great st...

A New Yorker in Kansas - the Midwest so far (DUW)

Well, now I’m in Kansas, going to KU. Big change in the story of the NYC herper and future “NY Crocodile Hunter” (hopefully). Kansas has been a huge change as far as herps are concerned. Definitely some of the best herping I’ve ever done, and many of my spots are within 20 minutes of the campus. A b...

Re: Final NYC Snapper Research Post new stuff (125 pics, edi

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I think a study of other urban snapper populations would be pretty cool as well, since its such a variable species, the characteristics unique to urban snappers could be pinpointed. In the Bronx, there is a variety of herp life outside snappers. Sliders and p...

The eggs dont face any collection pressure, but certainly TONS of predation. There are raccoons and other mammalian predators everywhere. I've seen snapper lay down a nest only to find it raided hours later.

Thanks for all the comments. Yea, that garbage is pretty bad, and its disgusting to work in. Hopefully, I can use those pictures to initiate some sort of clean up project for that site. Mulebrother - the pvc pipes were definitely a breakthrough, very durable, and extremely simple to transport and us...

Lawrence, Kansas Herping Help is it worth going out tonight?

Hey guys, Just moved out here to Lawrence, Kansas, as a freshman at the University of Kansas. I have no idea about herping here in the midwest, and was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers, maybe some spots. I've been out herping these last few days, catching snappers and some big water s...

Final NYC Snapper Research Post new stuff (125 pics, edited)

Snapping turtle research this year wasn’t as intensive as last year, as far as trap days, but has been very successful and productive nonetheless. Many gaps have been filled in, and I’m now ready to write my full and complete research paper for publication in a major/ semi major journal (hopefully, ...

Re: Bronx Snapper Study - new and old pics (125+ shots)

In the areas where these deformities are found, there is virtually no fishing. The chances of them running into people here (even on land) is very slim, and anyone running into them here wouldn't be of cruel intentions. In other populations here where fishing does occur, none of these bizarre facial...

Bronx Snapper Study - new and old pics (125+ shots)

While we’re all in the spirit of reposting old shots, I figured I’d put up all of my good shots from my snapper research from this season and last. There’s a ton of shots here, and I’m going to include more narrative than usual. My research has been in full effect since April of ’09. I use large num...
