Early Idaho Spring
We found a few herps out yesterday. We really wanted to find Rubber Boas and the weather was good in the morning when we found the one but as the day got more overcast and cold the encounters slowed so we headed to look for Couer d' Alene Salamanders. We searched a couple new areas and found quite a...

We will have to get together for sure. Some Newts would be cool to see in Idaho!

Nice to see another N Idaho herper. I would love to come down and find some Tigers around Moscow. Nice find.

So who gets to see the GPS location other than the person posting?

I signed up for the data base but am I doing something wrong or are GPS coordinates required to make an entry?

Re: SW Idaho Herping.
I was not expecting to see the ground snakes either but we were lucky to have a local who knew the area and he had caught many in the area including a few days before we were there. Knowing for sure we were in the right spot made it easier to stick with the rock flipping for as long as it took. I wi...

SW Idaho Herping.
I was vending at a Reptile Show near Boise ID over the weekend and we were able to get out for a little herping Fri and Sat evening. The weather was less than ideal fri afternoon and evening and Sat was worse. We had some success locating some herps on fri but nothing on Sat. I was very excited to g...

Re: Let's see your coeur d'alene salamanders
Kyle I thought the same thing until I found one. Not sure how to explain it but right when I found one the first thing that came into my mind was "that is not a long-toed". They are brighter, more crisply patterned, and stockier. They are very worth finding. The one I found also curled sid...

Re: Let's see your coeur d'alene salamanders
Your thread inspired me to go look for one. I have never searched for them before and to be honest I knew very little about them. I spent the last couple days reading field guides and various other literature on them so I had an idea what Habitat I needed to look for. After dinner my daughter and I ...

Re: I like turtles
I see hundreds of Western Paints in N Idaho and Eastern Wa every year when I am out fishing. I saw a huge one swimming under a thin sheet of ice in November a couple years ago on a N Idaho Lake.

Re: N Idaho finds
Thanks for the Welcome Travis. I grew up in Spokane and have done most of my herping around Spokane. I am going to try and do more Idaho herping this season as my daughter is enjoying it so far. Here is a Spokane Valley Boa as well as a WA King from last season. Ryan Young http://i15.photobucket.com...

Re: I like turtles
Nice to see some Western Pond turtle pics. I have only ever seen them once in WA state. We only have Western Painted Turtles here in N Idaho.

N Idaho finds
I was out with my daughter in Bonner County Idaho and we found a couple Western Skinks and one Long-toad Salamander. I was hoping to find a few snakes but we did not come across any. I only had my cellphone to take the pics with so it was a challenge to get anything worth sharing. Ryan Young http://...
