Re: Need a frog I.D.

Well...being down here in Florida I'm not sure how much help I can offer. My first guess would be a fairly young squirrel tree frog; or at the least a Hyla spp. But it also may be a chorus frog of some variety. The toe pads, size of the frog, etc eliminate Ranids, right? Thanks for the reply. I wou...

Need a frog I.D.

Hello fellow herpers of the south east chapter. Although I know mid-western herptiles like the back of my hand I am definitely in new territory here in North Carolina as I just moved here from Colorado yesterday. Anyway I found a frog today (first herp for me here in NC) and after consulting my trus...

Your Favorite Herp Eye?

I love the eyes of herps. Post what you think is the coolest eye of any herp you've found here. I'll start... My favorite would have to be the plains spadefoot toad (Spea bombifrons). I absolutely love the contrast between the body and they eye. http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/acurri1/spade...

First Spadefoot (Spea bombifrons) for me in Fremont County

Hey everyone. Road cruising last night produced nothing at first, but on the way home we found a plains spadefoot. I was excited considering it was the first bombifrons I have ever found. The intense rain we've been having must have coaxed him out. You gotta love that blank stare of the spadefoot. l...

Re: Great Start to the Herping Year! 2014

You live in a cool area. I drive through there at least once a year when going to the mountains for some hiking. I have always wanted to try some herping there and you may have provided me the inspiration! Your pictures of the big viridis are awesome by the way! Cool and thanks! If your ever in the...

Re: Great Start to the Herping Year! 2014

Ben, For me it depends on the location of the house I am removing the snake from. Most are on the outskirts of town so I just take them far enough so that they won't come into human contact again (or at least a while) usually 2-5 miles away. I hate relocating but when they get into people's houses i...

Great Start to the Herping Year! 2014

Last year I didn't find so much as a bull snake. So I didn't have very high expectations for this year. But for the last 2 months my expectations have been more than met! The year started off with a rattlesnake call that ended up being a bull snake (Pituophis catenifer sayi) that I pulled out of a c...

Re: Finally Found some Snakes!

I guess I spoke too soon! Me and my friend (the same friend I mentioned earlier) went back to the same house today because the home owners found the rattlesnake again. We went there, found it, took some pics, and released it in another area. It was a viridis. The owner had a shotgun pointed at it th...

Finally Found some Snakes!

I know I've probably been a little impatient with this, but I can't help it. The snakes seem to finally be coming out here in southern CO! Yesterday me and a friend went out to remove a rattlesnake from someones wheel chair ramp. Well when we got there they said it crawled out and into a vent on the...

Anyone know of any good spots in Denver?

Hello again. I am going to Denver this Friday to do some herping. I was wondering if anyone has any good spots they could let me in on. I am mainly looking for snakes. Specifically viridis. Thanks!

Yes I'd say more likely than just a regular undulatus. Erythrocheilus is a sub of undulatus right?

Early Spring Fence Lizards

Although extremely common in this area of Colorado, I've never lost interest in photographing these little guys. This is a small compilation of all the undulatus' I've found and photographed this year. Feedback is appreciated. This one smiles for the camera! http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/...

Very colorful Eastern Fence Liz (Sceloporus undulatus)

Male Sceloporus undulatus with amazing flash colors. One of the most colorful undulatus' I've seen yet. I wasn't able to get a shot of his belly but I did get his unbelievable chin. He even opened his mouth for me a bit... But still no snakes :( http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/acurri1/Lized...

Did you shoot them? They aren't native to CO, ya know...and they will deplete and eliminate the Leopard Frog populations wherever they get established  Yes I did shoot them. I used a Nikon D3000. Yes I know, leopard frogs are becoming increasingly difficult to find in this area. I've only fo...

Went herping today at a swamp close by and got some Rana catesbeiana pics. Didn't get as many pics as I wanted due to unexpected rain.
