Re: Australia trip Part 1

... Aren't bearded dragons amazing? I don't see how they survive. They are so incredibly unwary. I couldn't agree more. Perhaps one of the many illustrations of how "naive" Australian wildlife is; evolving in isolation in relatively simple ecosystems. That lizard would be toast in North America or ...

Re: Australia trip Part 3

Thanks for the comments ... How in the world did you spot the leaf tailed geckos? I feel like I could closely inspect a specific tree trunk with one on it and still miss it half the time. I was given a tip by someone on the forum to look for eye shine (kind of a dull red), and that is how I located ...

Great photos and I wish we had found some of the neat geckos you came up with. Reason for another visit to Australia I guess!

Re: Australia trip Part 1

No, you are not crazy. I took it and another pic down. Given the rules for handling wildlife in Australia, at least one forum member suggested removing the images of people handling herps (the skink was in-hand). I left the pic of little Ria holding the dragon... because who is going to go after a g...

When I was in the area a few a few years ago, we saw an "improved" version of that sign: http://wildherps.com/images/misc/fhf/friednotgrilled.jpg John I had seen that pic on your web site. In fact, I found your site very informative and it partially influenced me to head to Darwin to see the frilli...

Re: Australia trip Part 1

Thanks for the comments.

The bird pics, with the exception of the brush turkey, were made with a Canon 600/4. While bird pics were made almost exclusively with the 600, I used everything from a 16-35, 180 macro, 70-210, and 100-400 for the mammal and herp pics.

Seeing a cobra in the wild would be a treat. Great images btw. I like the 2 images of the boomslang showing the same snake in the same pose, only using different backgrounds.

Re: Australia trip Part 1

Your daughter with that lizard. That's a shot for the ages. Everything's just right in it - the wind in her hair - the excited-yet-semi-scared expression and body language (slightly hunched shoulders, ready to chuck the lizard far, far away), the blue nails - everything. I hope this will end up on ...

Re: NM, AZ, FL, NC, CA, & TX - Shuffled

What a report and what a load of pics.

Many beautiful and creative images in there. I especially like the pair of black-tails, the shadow of the rattler (took me a second), and the displaying spiny lizard.

Beauties!

Re: Royal Tree Snake (Gonyophis margaritata)

If I were you I would find out where that log is and spend some time sitting! What a stunningly beautiful snake. On our recent trip to Australia, I kept getting glimpses of different elapids but never really got to look at or photograph one. I really wanted to see a tiger snake and it sounded like s...

Re: New to Forum and Costa Rica compilation

Fantastic series of images! Makes me itch to get back to Costa Rica. I think this guy is not Agalychnis callidryas , like your previous photos, but a different species of Agalychnis , most likely Agalychnis saltator . I'll try and confirm it when I get home. http://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t604...

Re: New to Forum and Costa Rica compilation

I had forgotten pics of a couple of snakes from the Osa Peninsula. Not pictured from that area are a 6 foot+ neotropical bird snake from our first trip to CR (slide film) and a huge DOR tiger rat snake:(. I'd love to see one of those alive. Barred forest racer (in situ) http://i1316.photobucket.com/...

Nice trip report from Ecuador. Our visit there 2 years ago turned up very few herps. The birds however, especially the hummingbirds, were off the charts. I love the green eyelash viper!

Re: New to Forum and Costa Rica compilation

Whoa, great photos! Whats the focal length on the lens you're using for the monkey and bird shots? Thanks for the comments. I shoot Canon gear and the bird and mammal photos were mostly taken with a 600/4 lens, and a few with a 100-400/4.5-5.6. I use the 600 more than anything else, but on some hik...

New to Forum and Costa Rica compilation

I have lurked here for some time, but living in Alaska, don't have many opportunities to see and photograph herps. I have recently registered to pick some of the brains of Forum members for an upcoming trip to Australia. I thought that I would also take the opportunity to share some of my images of ...
