IL between McLean and Will...

Hi folks, I'll be travelling to Illinois for work again soon. I *might* have a day to steal away and do some herping in the counties between McLean and Will and maybe east to Kankakee. I am planning maybe to hike around Kankakee State Park, any other suggestions? Feel free to PM me if you don't want...

Gloves, gotta have 'em. Recently, I bought an $8 pair of cowhide gloves and so far they are the best. When it comes to climbing, lifting and moving rocks and tin, having a sturdy pair of gauntlets to protect my hands is a must have.

I always used the "one hand behind the head at the front of the carapace, one hand to the left or right of the tail at the back of the carapace" hold. I've used this method numerous times on large snappers and large, flailing Florida softshells. For some reason, this hold keeps the talons away from ...

Pics from the last couple weekends....

Last weekend, I got a chance to hit a spot in Sonoma Co. in the morning before we left. It was a rather uneventful morning, typically this local produces more. In this case, I found all of 3 snakes, 2 baby gophers and a nice king. I only have pics of one of the gophers as the other escaped into a ho...

I was out in Sonoma Co yesterday, hiked around in tall grass for about 6 hours, later that day, while driving, ticks were crawling all over. Probably they were on my pants, but I showered and checked where the sun don't shine and I was tick free. Anyway, reason I'm saying this, because I have herped...
