Re: Snakes in the Chiricahua mountains

One more thing. When I went we were based in the Southwestern Research Station and we hiked and cruised down into NM and also very close to the border, and we didn't have any problems. To be safe, I would avoid night hiking or camping nearer to the border, but I have friends that do it and besides t...

Re: Snakes in the Chiricahua mountains

Not sure what the other guys will say but I was in the Chiricahuas in September a couple years ago following a wet spell and the roads were literally filled with amphibians. We must have seen thousands of toads on the road, it was almost impossible not to hit them at some points. We saw atrox and mo...

Re: Macro vs Mid Range Zoom?

Hi Bill. Thanks for that long and detailed response, that was very helpful. I do a mixture of insitu and slightly posed shots of herps that I have moved off the road, so ideally something within arm's distance would be ideal. Recently I was shooting a large red diamond rattlesnake at night that woul...

Re: Massive sea turtle deaths in Florida following fireworks

What a disaster. Seems a little typical of America to do something very ill-planned like this, and if anyone with knowledge of the turtles was present in planning, this shouldn't have happened. I saw a thing on a man who was caught with over a hundred eggs on Jupiter Island, not sure if he was on th...

Macro vs Mid Range Zoom?

Hi all. I was just curious, do most of you have a mid range zoom lens, something from 24-70 or 24-105 that you use additionally or in place of a macro lenses? I like my macro lens (85mm dx on nikon) but I unfortunately fried the autofocus and part of the vr recently when I fell so I'm looking for a ...

Last week my good friend Kyle and I took our first duo trip down to the desert in San Diego county. Usually I don't cruise much past 1 or 2 just so I can get some sleep but I know people see things all the way until dawn. Hatching already?

I was out a few days ago in Riverside county and stumbled upon this beautiful baby helleri. It was really small (~8-9 inches) and had no rattles at all, which led me to believe it is a YOY, but it seems like it is way to early for that. Is it just a late birth from last year that hasn't grown much? ...
