They're too tough to see at night so... http://serpentrack.com/herps/trips/2008/images/050908/shovel-nosed_snake_2a.jpg ...ok, I'm FOS ;-) If it makes anyone feel better. I've only found one DOR this year and that was surprisingly hard to see at 45mph (I had sped up cause it was real slow that night...

Re: California Snake Bait

that's a great shot of the whiptail, how'd you get her to cooperate? Thanks:) No trick there, it was working along a trail like they tend to do and I approached slowly enough that it gave me just a momentary pause before taking cover. I was ready and luckily hit focus. As for getting close...a 6 MP...

Good thinking Mike, and thanks Psyon/Scott. Kind of senseless when the avatar is so small that you can't resolve what it is, let alone appreciate it.

Well taken Brad. His site looks totally non-commercial to me though...can't see where in the heck he'd be profiting from it, but maybe I'm missing something. Anyway that brings up an interesting point... With all the hard work, success and high traffic here on FHF, I can't see how Scott is profiting...

Good report Jonathan. One thing about the full moon rising is that the rise also falls (depending on terrain) at just about the end of what is the brief "magic hour" just after dark, so tough to control for that. There've been many moonless night where I had my only snakes between 8:15 and 9:30PM, b...

Wow, all the hard work pays-off eh? Great job and congrats on the Lyre! ..also the humongous Leaf-nosed. that quail would be a Gamblers quail. Correction: that is the very similar California Quail - note the scale pattern on the belly! Generally speaking Gambel's is the desert form while California ...
