What Chrish said. I have been thinking about upgrading my d80 as well, but I have decided to wait a few years, although, HD video would be nice.

Chrish, great advice, I don't know why I have never thought of that. I shoot in RAW and have been shooting multiple shots to stack. Also, shooting only 1 will be easier to stack because everything will be in the same place.

bgorum, those pics are stunning. The exposure on the atrox on the road shot is perfect. Did you use a flash?

Anyways, here is my setup.

Nikon d80
Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro
Tamron 17-50 f2.8
Nikon SB-800 flash with diffuser
When road cruising I also bring the Nikon R1 macro flash ring

According to my herpetologist friend in Spain, night driving is not very productive, at least near Barcelona. This seems strange because night temps can be very warm (difficult to sleep warm).

Question about 1:1

I remember a while back Chrish posted the minimum focus distance for many macro lenses, which got me thinking... Tamron 90mm: 11.4 inches Tamron 180mm: 18.5 inches Does this mean that you can get more magnification with the 180? I thought that 1:1 was 1:1, I would expect the minimum focus distance o...
